Just about 18 hours after topping FP1, Mahindra Racing’s Edoardo Mortara again set the pace in Formula E Tokyo FP2.

Warmer and drier conditions greeted the 20 drivers as they began their final 40 minutes of preparation before Saturday’s Qualifying and Race. Mortara immediately led with a 1:14.587, while Andretti Formula E’s Jake Dennis followed 0.180s behind.

However, Race Control halted the session after eight minutes when Felipe Drugovich lost control at Turn 17. The Andretti driver hit the barriers, bounced back onto the circuit and stopped in the middle of the track.

The session resumed at 13:47 local time. Furthermore, Race Control added five minutes to compensate for the delay, leaving 25 minutes of running.

Soon afterwards, Envision Racing’s Joel Eriksson improved the benchmark to 1:13.657. Nevertheless, Mortara quickly reclaimed first place with a 1:12.491, while teammate Nyck de Vries struck the barriers.

Despite several improvements, Mortara retained the lead as FP2 entered its final 10 minutes. However, he ended his running early after brushing the wall with eight minutes remaining.

Meanwhile, CUPRA KIRO’s Dan Ticktum climbed to P2, only 0.135s behind Mortara. Porsche Formula E Team’s Pascal Wehrlein subsequently completed the top three.

Ultimately, Mortara completed a cleansweep of Toyko’s two FP sessions on the timesheets.
