Random Vandals Racing looks set to return to a two-car BMW M4 GT3 EVO programme in GT World Challenge (GTWC) America powered by AWS for the 2027 season.
Team owner Paul Sparta has revealed a strong possibility that the reigning Pro class champions will expand their GT3 operation after scaling back to one car for 2026. The team currently fields the #99 BMW M4 GT3 EVO for Derek DeBoer and Hampus Eriksson in Pro-Am.
The planned expansion forms part of a wider commitment to SRO America, with Random Vandals also considering running between two and four BMW M4 GT4 EVOs in Pirelli GT4 America next season.
Random Vandals targets two-car return
Random Vandals entered the 2026 season with a reduced GT World Challenge America programme after running two BMWs during its title-winning 2025 campaign.
However, Sparta has indicated that the team now looks likely to return to a two-car operation next year.
“There’s a strong probability that we will have two cars in World Challenge next year and a similar number, [between] two and four in GT4 America,” Sparta told Sportscar365.
The expansion would add an Am-class BMW alongside Random Vandals’ existing programme, although the team has not yet announced the prospective driver pairing.
Random Vandals currently competes in Pro-Am with DeBoer and Eriksson. The pair continue their campaign at Barber Motorsports Park this weekend, where the #99 forms part of the 20-car GT World Challenge America entry.
The expansion would therefore return Random Vandals to the two-car GT3 structure it operated before reducing its programme for 2026.
Two-car programme would follow title-winning 2025 campaign
Random Vandals previously expanded its GT World Challenge America presence to two BMW M4 GT3 EVOs for the 2025 season.
Kenton Koch and BMW factory driver Connor De Phillippi spearheaded the team’s championship challenge, while Varun Choksey and BMW stalwart Bill Auberlen shared its second entry.
Koch and De Phillippi ultimately secured the 2025 Pro Drivers’ Championship, establishing Random Vandals as the defending class champion entering the current campaign.
However, the team changed direction for 2026 and reduced its GT3 involvement to a single Pro-Am entry.
DeBoer joined Random Vandals after previously competing in international endurance racing, while Eriksson arrived as the reigning Lamborghini Super Trofeo North America champion. Their #99 BMW remains the team’s sole GTWC America entry this season.
A return to two cars in 2027 would consequently restore Random Vandals’ GT3 operation to the size of its championship-winning 2025 programme, albeit with entries across different classes.
IMSA plans no longer expected to progress
Random Vandals’ renewed focus on SRO America comes after the team stepped away from plans to expand into the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship.
The team had previously targeted a GTD Pro programme with BMW and explored the possibility of entering IMSA’s top GT category. However, those plans did not materialise for 2026.
Random Vandals instead continued in GT World Challenge America, while also competing in the Michelin Pilot Challenge.
Sparta has now indicated that an IMSA programme appears unlikely for 2027.
“The only thing right now is that it’s looking like I’ve got nothing in IMSA,” he said.
The team owner did not specify why the programme had moved away from its IMSA ambitions. However, Random Vandals now appears ready to concentrate its resources on an expanded SRO America presence.
That shift could leave the team operating up to six BMWs across GT World Challenge America and Pirelli GT4 America in 2027.
GT4 America programme could also expand
Random Vandals is also evaluating an expanded Pirelli GT4 America programme alongside its proposed two-car GT3 effort.
The team already maintains a significant presence in the championship with the BMW M4 GT4 EVO and could run between two and four cars next season.
Discussions surrounding an additional Pro-Am entry are ongoing during this weekend’s Barber Motorsports Park event.
Random Vandals enters Barber leading the Pro-Am standings with Sam Craven as the championship approaches its final two events.
Sparta will also return to the cockpit during the season-ending Indianapolis weekend. The FIA Bronze-rated driver has largely remained away from driving duties during 2026 but will join Patrick Hamner in a fourth Random Vandals entry for the finale.
The appearance adds another car to the team’s programme as it evaluates the structure of its 2027 GT4 campaign.
Texas 8 Hour appearance also possible
Random Vandals could also extend its 2027 programme to include the Texas 8 Hour at Circuit of The Americas.
The event will replace Indianapolis as the American round of the Intercontinental GT Challenge next season. The 2026 Indianapolis 8 Hour will mark the final edition of the event at Indianapolis Motor Speedway before the championship moves its American endurance round to COTA.
Sparta has not ruled out joining the proposed Am-class BMW for the Texas event as its third driver.
Such an appearance would give Random Vandals an opportunity to combine its full-season GT World Challenge America programme with the longer Intercontinental GT Challenge event.
However, the team has yet to finalise its second GT3 entry or announce the drivers who would share the car.
For now, Random Vandals remains focused on completing its 2026 campaigns. The team heads into the closing stages of the season with one BMW in GT World Challenge America and a significant GT4 operation, but its plans for next year point towards a larger commitment to SRO America.
If the proposed programmes come together, Random Vandals could return to two BMW M4 GT3 EVOs while operating as many as four M4 GT4 EVOs across its 2027 SRO America campaign.
