Qualifying for Round 16 of the 2026 F1 season in Malaysia has been completed at the Sepang International Circuit, view the full results here.
Ahead of the weekend, Arvid Lindblad, Isack Hadjar and Franco Colapinto all carried grid penalties into the Grand Prix.
Both Cadillacs, the two Haas cars, Nico Hülkenberg and Alex Albon were eliminated in Q1. Ocon failed to make it around for his final flying lap, while Albon locked up and ran wide on his final attempt.
Both Aston Martins progressed to Q2 for the first time in 2026.
In Q2, Colapinto and Lindblad offered tows to Gasly and Lawson respectively. The strategy paid off for Gasly, but Lawson was knocked out of Q2 at the last second by Bortoleto.
Both Aston Martins, the Racing Bulls, Carlos Sainz and Colapinto were eliminated in Q2.
Russell struggled to match the pace at the front for much of qualifying, trailing the likes of Red Bull and Ferrari. With six minutes remaining on the clock, Verstappen set the provisional pole time with a 1:35.250s, putting him three-tenths clear of the rest of the field.
Antonelli ran separately from the rest of the field in Q3, having used an extra set of tyres earlier in qualifying due to track limits, but still managed to move up to P3.
Verstappen ultimately took pole position with a 1:35.130s, with Hamilton securing P2 and Hadjar qualifying in P3. Antonelli finished in P4. However, Hadjar’s grid penalty drops him to P8 for Sunday’s Grand Prix.
