The 2026 GT World Challenge (GTWC) Europe powered by AWS season continued at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya with the fifth and final Sprint Cup event of the campaign and the ninth round of the combined championship.

Victories for Alex Aka and Dylan Pereira in Race 1 and Ben Green and Thierry Vermeulen in Race 2 reshaped several Overall and Sprint Cup battles. Ricardo Feller and Bastian Buus secured the Sprint Cup Drivers’ Championship, while Team WRT retained the Teams’ crown. In the combined standings, Team WRT moved five points clear of Winward Racing, while Lucas Auer and Maro Engel maintained a substantial Overall Drivers’ Championship advantage.

Barcelona also settled the Sprint Cup Gold, Silver and Bronze titles. Tommaso Mosca and Matías Zagazeta claimed the Gold Cup Drivers’ crown, Matisse Lismont and Ignacio Montenegro completed their title-winning Silver Cup campaign, and Peter Dempsey and Eddie Cheever sealed the Bronze Cup after extending their winning streak to four races. However, because Barcelona featured only Sprint Cup action, every Endurance Cup classification remained unchanged ahead of the season-ending Portimão round.

Sprint Cup

Barcelona brought the 2026 GT World Challenge Europe Sprint Cup season to a close after five rounds and 10 races. The finale followed Brands Hatch, Misano, Magny-Cours and Zandvoort, where Ricardo Feller and Bastian Buus had moved into the Drivers’ Championship lead before travelling to Spain with a 5.5-point advantage.

Feller and Buus completed their title bid in the rain-affected opening race. Alex Aka and Dylan Pereira charged from 14th to win for Tresor Attempto Racing, but second place proved enough for the Lionspeed GP pairing to secure the Drivers’ Championship before Race 2. Their performance formed part of an unpredictable Barcelona Race 1 that also produced class victories for Aka and Pereira in Gold, Mikey Porter and Guilherme Oliveira in Silver, and Peter Dempsey and Eddie Cheever in Bronze.

Severe weather then forced organisers to cancel Qualifying 2, leaving officials to use the second drivers’ FP2 times to determine the grid for the finale. Ben Green and Thierry Vermeulen converted their unconventional pole into victory in Barcelona Race 2, giving Emil Frey Racing a second consecutive Race 2 win after Zandvoort. Team WRT secured the Overall Teams’ Championship, while the weekend also confirmed the remaining class champions.

Further back, 2Seas Motorsport finishes fifth on 63 points, while Garage 59 and Winward Racing share 51.5. Tresor Attempto Racing’s outstanding Barcelona weekend moved the Audi squad into ninth with 36.5 points after Aka and Pereira collected the maximum score from Race 1 and followed it with another strong result in Race 2.

Endurance Cup

Barcelona formed part of the Sprint Cup, so it did not change any of the 2026 GT World Challenge Europe Endurance Cup classifications. The standings therefore remain as they were following the Nürburgring Endurance Cup round, with four of the five long-distance events now complete and Portimão still to come.

Several titles have already been settled. Lucas Auer, Maro Engel and Luca Stolz secured the Overall Drivers’ Championship at the Nürburgring, while Team WRT wrapped up both Silver Cup titles. Kessel Racing also secured the Bronze Cup Teams’ Championship. The Overall Teams’ crown remains open, however, while the Gold Cup and Bronze Cup Drivers’ battles will also go down to Portimão.

The championship remains mathematically open heading into Portimão, where the final qualifying point and race result can still influence the outcome. Garage 59 sits a distant fourth on 34 points, with ROWE Racing one point further back and Tresor Attempto Racing sixth on 31.

Barcelona brought the 2026 Sprint Cup season to a close while creating one final shift in the combined GTWC Europe standings before Portimão. Team WRT now leads the Overall Teams’ Championship by five points over Winward Racing, while Auer and Engel remain comfortably ahead of Feller and Buus in the Drivers’ standings.

Feller and Buus leave Barcelona as Sprint Cup champions, while Team WRT secured the Teams’ title. AF Corse, Team WRT and Ziggo Sport Tempesta Racing also ended the weekend with Gold, Silver and Bronze Cup honours respectively, completing the Sprint Cup championship picture.

Attention now turns entirely to the Endurance Cup, which concludes at Portimão from 15–18 October. With several combined and Endurance Cup titles still undecided, the final long-distance race of 2026 will determine the remaining champions and complete the GTWC Europe season.
