Thruxton is one of the most famous UK racing circuits, and also the fastest for the BTCC. The high speed track led to a day of non stop action and tested the drivers to the absolute limits. So, let’s recap ahead of Oulton Park.
Race Recaps – Race 1
BTCC Race 1 at Thruxton saw NAPA racing driver Ashley Sutton on pole for the first race of the weekend, however his hopes for a win quickly ended. We saw Vertu driver Tom Chilton spin out within the first few seconds of the opening lap, as well as Charles Rainford. There were multiple collisions between drivers, the most notable between Ashley Sutton and Tom Ingram. There was overtakes across the field which certainly made the spectators excited despite the short and fast paced race. Mikey Doble unfortunately DNFed in race 1, which certainly contrasted his Snetterton win just 2 weeks prior. The end of the race saw Tom Ingram celebrating his maiden win of the 2025 season despite his action packed race, reminding fans why he’s one of the most decorated drivers. NAPA Racings Dan Cammish brought home a P2 trophy and One Motorsports Josh Cook rounded off the podium in P3.
Race Recaps – Race 2
BTCC Race 2 at Thruxton was also filled with incidents, however following his win in race 1, Tom Ingram made use of his pole position for this one. Both Tom Chilton and Gordan Sheddon ended up in the pits with issues, Chilton with suspected mechanical issues and Sheddon due to “mowing the lawn”. Jake Hill certainly drawn attention to himself as he also ended up on the grass and he also went into the side of Adam Morgan, which resulted in Morgan going through markers on the chicane. Mikey Doble wasn’t having the best weekend as he had another DNF in race 2, both from suspected engine issues. Jake Hill and Dan Rowbottom certain kept things interesting as they were consistently overtaking each other and having a few close calls, but certainly proved why BTCC is worth tuning in for. To conclude race 2, Ash Sutton brought his daughter with him to the top step, with Tom Ingram bagging a P2 and Josh Cook with another P3.
Race Recaps – Race 3
Race 3 concluded the weekend with James Dorlin on pole, which didn’t last long as Jake Hill immediately secured the P1 spot. The 2 race winners thus far had a collision which didn’t stop them from showing some incredible recoveries. Adam Morgan also didn’t have luck on his side this weekend as he unfortunately ended up in the barriers. Ronan Pearson had a unique racing incident with his bonnet popping open part way through his race, and successfully not crashing. Jake Hill and Ash Sutton also had a notable collision with Sutton perfecting his recovery in the race. Despite the action, Dan Rowbottom finally secured a P1 win this weekend after his incredible racing consistently wowing the crowd, Tom Ingram became mister consistent with another P2 finish and if NAPA Racing couldn’t celebrate anymore, Dan Cammish rounded off the podium with P3.
Notable drivers
So, with all of this action it’s obvious who have truly shined through this weekend. Ash Sutton showed viewers a masterclass in racing with his win and incredible recoveries from racing incidents. Tom Ingram proved why he’s adored in the sport, with two P2 finishes and a win, again, another masterclass of racing shown through his Thruxton dominance. NAPA Racing couldn’t have wished for a better weekend, and we can only hope they have enough room for all the trophies they’ve got this far into the season.
Now, with Oulton Park being hosted on June 22nd, we’ll have to see who comes out on top ahead of the summer break.
