It’s Saturday morning and the first race day of the Formula E weekend. FP2 for the London E-Prix has just concluded and Nyck de Vries has set the fastest lap time. Mitch Evans follows in second place, with Dan Ticktum rounding off the session.

It’s green light to kick off FP2

The green light has been displayed at the end of the pit lane and drivers start to emerge on track. The benchmark of a 1:08:026 by Wehrlein in FP1 is set! For now, drivers warm up their tyres, before first push laps will happen. There was a brief yellow flag at Turn 10 for a driver running wide.

Bird had a spin at Turn 6 but continued on. The first representative lap times have been set by now, 10 minutes into the session. Cassidy with a 1:09.471 on top for the time being, while Mortara was given a black and white flag for driving unnecessarily slowly. Barnard received the same flag later.

Di Grassi, after technical issues in FP1 took first position with the 350kW power. He had to navigate through some traffic in the final part of his lap, however. He radioed he would have lost half a second anyway. Vergne destroyed the Brazilian’s lap with a 1:08.395, before Barnard went quicker.

Halfway through the session

We are 20 minutes into FP2 and some teams completed pit boost stops, as today’s race will feature it for the first time at Excel London . Di Grassi was slightly in the way of Cassidy after leaving another car through at the entry to the hall. Barnard nearly went straight at Turn 16, but was able to keep the car off the wall.

Bird and then Ticktum took first, finally into the 1:07’s, beating Wehrlein’s FP1 lap time. Replays show Maloney had a longer lock-up going into Turn 10, so he had to take the run off. His tyres are definitely damaged due to this. Brief yellow flags at Turn 20, but green again.

Then it was Evans who took first from Ticktum by nearly four tenths! Could we see 1:06 lap times today? Vandoorne going into Turn 16 had a lock-up but he kept the car on track and continued. And Ticktum’s lap time is just 0.008 seconds off Evans!

Final moments

Now going into the final moments of the session, brief yellow flag again at Turn 18 and 19, just as Frijns had a spin at Turn 16, nearly being collected by a Maserati. Hughes couldn’t improve his lap time, as he encountered traffic in the final sector. That lap was deleted for track limits, though.

Dennis went out at Turn 1, causing a yellow flag, but he continued. De Vries then took first from Evans, just 0.043 seconds between them! The Mahindra driver was then in a small fight with Cassidy, who was on 350kW and muscled himself through.

Stay tuned for qualifying in under two hours!
