Jak Crawford’s Sunday in Hungary didn’t go as well as he hoped, despite the strong result. Starting from P3 for the F2 Hungarian GP Feature Race, Crawford maintained position to finish exactly there. This became his second P3 of the weekend. The American feels as though the P3 seat is his at this point in time.

Crawford spoke to media outlets including Pit Debrief after the conclusion of the Feature Race. Speaking on this, as well his plans for the break, Crawford’s mission is clear for the remainder of the season.

Frustrations following a race that could’ve been more

Despite what most would consider a strong result, Jak Crawford was not satisfied with P3. The American emphasised the shear pace his DAMS Lucas Oil machinery had. With a slow stop affecting his race, he lost a few seconds to the Czech driver he was looking to chase down.

After closing that gap once again, his only opportunity to pass Stanek was ruined by a lockup on the dirty inside line. Understandably, he has come away from this frustrated and disappointed. With the Feature Race being set on a wet track, the conditions were never going to be easy to overtake in. Regardless, he is happy with the points he scored, simply wishing there were more of them.

“Yeah, quite frustrated, to be honest. I felt really good pace. I had a really slow stop, which hurt me a lot, because I came quite close to Roman on the pit entry. But I came out losing two seconds, or three seconds, so had to gain that gap again. And, yeah, just frustrated, because I only had one opportunity. And it was a bit dirty on the inside, and just had a small lockup, which put me a bit offline. But, yeah, I mean, tricky to pass in these conditions, as we know. Still really happy with the points, even though it’s not exactly what we want.

With his second P3 result of the weekend, Crawford joked about the seat in Press Conferences being his: “Yeah, it’s kind of my spot over here now“.

Maintaining momentum through the Summer break

The next round of the Formula 2 season takes place in Monza, a little over a month from now. With such a long gap between races Crawford will be taking time to rest and rejuvenate before the final stint of the season. As well as the well needed rest, Crawford and DAMS Lucas Oil will be working hard to prepare for the final push. Ideally, the hard work will convert into more points once the season resumes.

Yeah, obviously taking a bit of time off both for me and the team because, it’s been a really rough summer with a lot of hard work. And, yeah, it just gives us a good opportunity to work really hard for, two weeks before Monza. So, yeah, really looking forward to it.”
