The 2025 F2 Sprint Race at the Abu Dhabi GP injected fresh tension into Formula 2’s season-ending weekend. Although the Drivers’ Championship had already reached its conclusion in Qatar, the Sprint still carried immense significance. Crucially, the Teams’ Championship battle intensified dramatically. As the field now prepares for the decisive Feature Race, the championship landscape looks more volatile than ever.
Drivers’ Championship: Shifts behind the champion, but a difficult session for P2 contenders
Although Leonardo Fornaroli had already secured the Drivers’ Championship in Qatar, the Abu Dhabi Sprint Race continued to reshape the order behind him, keeping the fight for the remaining positions highly competitive. Jak Crawford delivered the most significant gain by reclaiming second place in the standings. His composed drive to sixth in a race full of turbulence and constant position changes allowed him to edge three points ahead of Richard Verschoor, giving him a narrow but valuable margin heading into the final race.
Verschoor, meanwhile, endured a more difficult outing. Despite moments of promising pace, he failed to break into the top ten. Adding to the complexity, Fornaroli’s post-race penalty—issued for leaving the track while battling Verschoor—affected the midfield rather than the frontrunners, inadvertently preventing Verschoor from benefiting from the reshuffled order and maintaining Crawford’s advantage.
Arvid Lindblad continued his impressive late-season form with a commanding victory from pole, further solidifying his grip on sixth place. His performance once again highlighted Campos Racing’s strong form and his own growing consistency. Likewise, Dino Beganovic strengthened his campaign with a decisive fourth-place finish, surpassing 100 points and reinforcing his claim for a top-five result. His calculated attacking and defending demonstrated maturity and underlined his importance in Hitech’s season.
Behind them, a tightly packed midfield—including Martins, Montoya, Staněk and Dürksen—continued to trade places, keeping the battle for positions seven to twelve extremely close. With so few points separating these drivers, substantial movement remains possible in the final race. Overall, despite the title being settled, the championship order behind Fornaroli remains fluid.

Teams’ Championship: Title fight tightens with one race left
While the Drivers’ standings shifted subtly, the Teams’ Championship experienced a much more dramatic recalibration. With every point carrying enormous weight, the Abu Dhabi Sprint delivered significant consequences.
To begin with, Invicta Racing remained on 296 points, although the team failed to extend their lead. Fornaroli’s penalty, combined with a quiet race for Verschoor, meant that Invicta neither pulled away nor showed the stability they displayed earlier in the season. As a result, their margin remains solid but no longer feels entirely comfortable.
Meanwhile, Hitech TGR preserved second place with Beganovic’s strong finish. However, the afternoon undeniably belonged to Campos Racing. Lindblad’s victory and Tsolov’s impressive maiden podium transformed Campos’ weekend. Not only did they close the gap to Hitech to just ten points, but they also strengthened their claim as the most upward-moving team heading into the finale.
Furthermore, DAMS Lucas Oil and MP Motorsport continued their season-long tussle for fourth. Despite both teams scoring, DAMS retained a narrow advantage. Nevertheless, MP remain close enough to overturn the deficit in a single successful race.
Below them, Rodin, Prema and ART maintained steady but unspectacular momentum. Although they are no longer part of the main title narrative, each continues to influence the championship through their battles in the lower points.
Ultimately, the Abu Dhabi Sprint reshaped the Teams’ Championship more dramatically than the Drivers’. With only one race left, the contest for second place has become a three-way showdown, and even Invicta now face subtle pressure to seal their crown cleanly.
