After a strong F2 Azerbaijan GP Sprint Race, Hitech’s Luke Browning is just 17 points behind championship leader Leonardo Fornaroli, keeping the 2025 F2 title fight wide open.
Dino Beganovic claimed his first-ever Formula 2 victory at the F2 Azerbaijan Sprint Race in Baku. The Ferrari Academy driver led home a dominant Hitech 1-2, with teammate Browning finishing second. Alex Dunne completed the podium after a dramatic afternoon on the streets of Baku.
Chaos at the start, heartbreak for Stenshorne
The sprint got off to a wild start. Reverse-grid pole sitter Rafael Villagomez tangled at Turn 2. Pepe Marti and Ollie Goethe were also eliminated in the chaos. Arvid Lindblad, still serving penalties from Monza, became another early retirement. Four drivers were out before the field had even settled into rhythm.
Beganovic seized the lead from Sebastian Montoya and quickly pulled away. Rookie Martinius Stenshorne made headlines on his F2 debut, charging into second place with some bold overtakes. But his dream F2 Azerbaijan Sprint Race ended abruptly with a mechanical failure, leaving him stranded and bringing out the safety car.
Breakthroughs, late drama, and historic finish
As the track went green again, Beganovic controlled the pace. Browning made a decisive move on Montoya to secure second. Dunne fought hard with Gabriele Mini, eventually taking third and holding it to the line. Jak Crawford, starting from P10, climbed to fourth, while championship leader Fornaroli secured fifth in the F2 Azerbaijan Sprint Race.
The closing laps saw more drama. Richard Verschoor stole sixth from Mini in the final moments. Victor Martins grabbed eighth, while Arvid Lindblad produced a strong recovery drive to tenth, salvaging the final point. Montoya’s race unravelled completely, as technical trouble and a safety car infringement dropped him to 15th.
At the front, Beganovic was untouchable. He crossed the line with a six-second margin, sealing a dominant maiden F2 triumph. It was also Hitech’s first 1-2 finish in five years, underlining their strength in Baku. The F2 Azerbaijan Sprint Race delivered chaos, retirements, and breakthrough performances — but it ended with Beganovic writing his name into the record books.
