As the 2025 F2 British GP Sprint Race got underway at Silverstone, drama unfolded before the lights even went out. Hitech Pulse-Eight’s Dino Beganovic stalled on the formation lap, forcing a return to the pits and relegating him to a back-of-the-grid start. This mishap foreshadowed the unpredictable action that would dominate the 21-lap contest.
Fornaroli seizes early initiative
Despite losing the lead off the line to Kush Maini, Leonardo Fornaroli wasted no time in striking back. The Invicta Racing driver—starting from reverse-grid pole—reclaimed the top spot with a bold move into Copse on Lap 1. From there, he carefully managed the race, balancing tyre wear and pressure from rivals as chaos broke out behind.
This victory marks Fornaroli’s first win in Formula 2 and his first victory at any level in four years. It also made him the highest scorer of the day, rocketing him up the championship standings.
Intense midfield brawls and British hopefuls
The British crowd had their eyes on Luke Browning and Arvid Lindblad, but both found themselves mired in fierce midfield battles. Browning went wheel-to-wheel with Lindblad early on, then found himself defending against both Richard Verschoor and Victor Martins in a high-speed DRS train.
Though Browning originally crossed the line in seventh, a 10-second time penalty for track limits infringements dropped him to P12, nullifying what could have been valuable points on home soil. This demotion allowed Martins to claim the final points-paying position in eighth.
Contact and penalties shake up front-runners
The battle for the lead of the F2 Sprint Race of the British GP took a dramatic turn on Lap 8 when Gabriele Minì made contact with Alex Dunne. The Alpine junior picked up front wing damage, while Dunne suffered a puncture that dropped him to the rear of the field. Dunne eventually retired on Lap 17.
Adding insult to injury, Minì received a 10-second time penalty for gaining an advantage off-track during the incident, further damaging his final classification. Despite showing strong pace, both drivers walked away empty-handed from the Sprint.
Invicta celebrate double podium at Silverstone
Invicta Racing had plenty to cheer about. In addition to Fornaroli’s dominant win, Roman Staněk delivered a composed drive to secure third, making it a 1–3 finish for the team. Sebastian Montoya impressed once again by climbing from sixth to second, overtaking Maini late in the race to snatch P2.
Maini ultimately finished fourth, followed by Joshua Dürksen and Jak Crawford. Despite being caught in early scraps, Richard Verschoor salvaged sixth, limiting the damage to his championship lead.
Fornaroli surges into contention
The outcome of the F2 Sprint Race at the 2025 British GP significantly altered the championship picture. Verschoor remains on top with 116 points, but Fornaroli’s 10-point haul catapulted him from fourth to second with 96 points. Crawford’s P6 result nudged him ahead of Dunne into third on 91 points, just five adrift of the lead.
Browning, who failed to score due to his penalty, now drops to fifth and risks falling further behind if he cannot respond in the Feature Race. Meanwhile, Montoya’s podium lifts him to eighth in the standings, and Martins edges closer to the top five with a critical point in eighth.
A intense battle at the top
The 2025 F2 Silverstone Sprint Race at the British GP delivered in both spectacle and stakes. Fornaroli’s flawless performance under pressure reaffirms his championship credentials, while Invicta Racing’s harmony and pace are beginning to show real dividends. As the Feature Race approaches, all eyes are on Verschoor and Fornaroli, with just 20 points separating the top four in what is shaping up to be a thrilling title fight.
