Leonardo Fornaroli delivered a commanding performance at the Hungarian GP Feature Race, securing his first Feature Race victory in F2 and extending his lead in the 2025 championship. The Invicta Racing driver, who started from the front row alongside teammate Roman Staněk, controlled the race despite a pit lane speeding penalty that could have jeopardised his win. His triumph, combined with results from Saturday’s Sprint Race, has reshaped the championship standings and intensified the battle across the grid.

The shifting 2025 F2 Championship picture

Entering the 2025 Hungarian GP Feature Race, Leonardo Fornaroli held a narrow lead in the F2 standings. After Saturday’s Sprint, his advantage over Richard Verschoor stood at just four points, with Jak Crawford and Alex Dunne also in close pursuit. However, Sunday’s outcome significantly reshaped the order at the top.

Fornaroli’s emphatic victory, achieved with a margin of more than seven seconds over Roman Staněk, earned him the full 25 points and lifted his tally to 154. Verschoor finished fifth, collecting 10 points and moving from 125 to 135, which dropped him to third place in the standings.

Crawford, meanwhile, was one of the biggest winners of the weekend. His third-place finish in the Feature Race boosted his total from 122 to 137 points, allowing him to overtake Verschoor and climb to second in the championship.

The battle within the top five

Behind the top three, the fight for the remaining positions inside the top five saw notable changes. Luke Browning produced another strong drive, finishing fourth and adding 12 points to his championship tally. This result boosted him from 113 to 125 points, allowing him to overtake Alex Dunne in the standings.

Dunne, who had been joint-third with Crawford before Sunday, finished ninth in the Feature Race. While he did score two points, his total now stands at 124, placing him fifth overall. The margins between these drivers remain razor-thin, with only 30 points separating Fornaroli at the top from Dunne in fifth.

Midfield movements

While the focus often remains on the front-runners, the 2025 Hungarian GP Feature Race brought significant changes in the F2 midfield battle as well. Roman Staněk’s weekend was a standout example. The Czech driver had secured his maiden F2 pole position in qualifying and converted it into a strong second-place finish on Sunday. This performance earned him 18 points and propelled him from 57 to 77 points, jumping from tenth to eighth in the standings.

Arvid Lindblad also enjoyed a productive weekend. The young Briton finished sixth in the Feature Race, adding eight points to his tally and moving from 84 to 92 points. While he remains seventh in the standings, he has narrowed the gap to Pepe Martí in sixth place. Martí himself had a less successful Sunday, finishing outside the top eight and only adding a single point, bringing his total to 97.

Sebastián Montoya and Victor Martins, both previously in the top ten, failed to score in the Feature Race. Montoya’s non-finish dropped him from eighth to ninth, tied with Staněk on points before the latter’s podium leapfrogged him in the order. Martins remained in tenth with 69 points, his championship momentum stalling after a difficult Hungarian GP.

Developments in the lower order

Further down the standings, Dino Beganovic made important gains. The Swede finished seventh in the 2025 Hungarian GP F2 Feature Race, collecting six points and moving from 51 to 58 in the standings. This result consolidates his position in eleventh place, putting him within striking distance of Martins in tenth.

Oliver Goethe’s eighth-place finish delivered him four points, increasing his total from 19 to 23. This brought him level with Joshua Dürksen, who also sits on 23 points after finishing twelfth. The tie between the two adds extra intrigue to the lower midfield battle as the season progresses.

Further back, there was little movement. Rafael Villagómez remains on 11 points, while Amaury Cordeel, Sami Meguetounif, John Bennett, Max Esterson, and Cian Shields did not add to their totals. Bennett, Esterson, and Shields continue their search for their first points of the season.

The significance of Budapest

The Hungarian GP marked a turning point in the 2025 F2 season. Fornaroli’s win not only extended his championship lead but also demonstrated Invicta Racing’s strength as a team, with Staněk completing a one-two finish. This result could prove pivotal in the momentum battle as the season moves into its latter stages.

As the championship moves on from Budapest, the stage is set for an intense final four of the season. If the Hungarian GP is any indication, the fight for the 2025 F2 crown will continue to deliver excitement, unpredictability, and high stakes for drivers and teams alike.
