The 2025 F2 Sprint Race at the Spanish GP in Barcelona dramatically reshaped the championship battle, as a late safety car and divergent tyre strategies produced a stunning shake-up. Richard Verschoor emerged victorious after a decisive switch to soft tyres, slicing through the field in the final laps. The Dutchman’s ten-point haul propelled him ahead of Jak Crawford and Leonardo Fornaroli in the standings, firmly establishing him as a title contender.

Alexander Dunne delivered a remarkable recovery drive from 19th on the grid to second place, collecting nine points with the fastest lap. His performance enabled him to leapfrog Luke Browning in the standings and seize the championship lead. Browning, despite leading early on, struggled on degraded tyres and slipped to seventh at the flag. Consequently, he dropped to second overall, three points behind Dunne. Fornaroli, who had started from pole, faded to eighth and scored only a single point, falling to fourth in the title race.

Meanwhile, Crawford’s early pace looked promising, but the decision to stay out on worn tyres proved costly. Although he held on for fourth and gained five points, he was overtaken by Verschoor in the standings. Further back, Rafael Villagómez produced the drive of his career, charging from last to third on fresh tyres to claim his maiden podium and boost his position in the lower half of the table.

Initially classified fifth, Sebastián Montoya was later handed a five-second penalty for causing a collision with Gabriele Minì at Turn 1, dropping him to eleventh. As a result, Victor Martins was promoted to fifth, while Luke Browning and Leonardo Fornaroli also moved up a place each. The penalty capped off a chaotic race that not only shuffled the finishing order but also significantly altered the momentum in the championship fight, with Dunne taking control and Verschoor closing in fast.
