Day 2 of the 2025 Macau GP FR World Cup kicked off with FP2. On Thursday, Taito Kato set the pace in FP1 ahead of Freddie Slater, but the British driver hit back strongly later in the day by topping the opening Qualifying 1 session.

The weekend features an array of 27 competitive young drivers under the age of 25.

Initial lap times

The 40-minute FP2 session began with drivers adjusting to the subtly altered conditions compared to Thursday. Overnight rain left parts of the circuit slightly damp, adding an extra layer of caution to the early laps. Enzo Deligny was the first to post a representative flying lap, with Freddie Slater slotting in three tenths behind in P2 and Matteo De Palo close behind in P3.

Multiple Red Flags

Kanato Le brought out the first red flag of the session after carrying too much speed into a corner and hitting the barriers, causing damage to both the front and rear of his ART Grand Prix car.

Once running resumed, Deligny briefly ran off at Turn 17, though marshals were able to find a safe gap in traffic to guide him back onto the circuit.

The green-flag running was short-lived, however, as a second red flag was triggered when Oscar Wurz struck the wall near Fisherman’s. Mari Boya was one of the few drivers able to bank a lap between the two interruptions, improving his time to go fastest, with De Palo moving into P2 and Deligny sitting third.

Session resumed with 7 and half minutes to go

Once the Evans GP car was cleared from the circuit, only a small window remained for drivers to push for their final flying laps in the 2025 Macau FR FP2 session.

Deligny initially improved to go faster than Boya, but the Spaniard quickly responded, reclaiming the top spot when he completed his lap. Moments later, Slater crossed the line with a 2:16.552, putting himself ahead of Boya and taking over at the top of the timesheets.

Red Flag and conclusion of the session

Zeenrui Chi then went off at the exact same spot as Oscar Wurz at Fisherman’s, bringing out yet another stoppage. With only minutes remaining, the session was not resumed.

As a result of the repeated red-flag interruptions, several drivers at the bottom of the classification were unable to set a representative lap time, having not crossed the finish line before the final stoppage.
