Practice 1 at Barber for round 4 of the 2026 IndyCar season has been completed, view the full results here.

At the turn 5 hairpin, Alex Rossi stopped in the run-off as ECR diagnosed a fuel pressure problem with his #20 car. A red flag was required. Before that, Mick Schumacher had a pretty big lock-up on the downhill entry.

Meyer Shank Racing’s Marcus Armstrong had a big moment at high speed in the turn 9-10 chicane as he found the grass. Luckily for him, he avoided any major spin or crash.

Championship leader Kyle Kirkwood had a small snap at the tricky turn 13 but just avoided the grass.

There was another hairy moment as Pato O’Ward had some oversteer in turn 1 and grazed the grass.

At the end of full field running, Scott McLaughlin on a 1:08.090 led a Team Penske 1-2 from David Malukas. Kirkwood, Palou, O’Ward and Newgarden completed a top 6 fully of big hitters. Scott Dixon was 8th, showing better form.

As the reds appeared, David Malukas threw down the gauntlet. A blistering 1:07.545 put him nearly 0.8s clear of the pack with six minutes left. Alex Palou did get close, ending up a tenth away.

However, Christian Lundgaard beat both as a 1:07.437 from the McLaren driver saw him end up quickest in the first group of split running.

With over nine minutes remaining, Kyle Kirkwood smashed in a 1:07.412 to go fastest across both groups at that stage. Pato O’Ward was 0.003s slower with a strong second effort.

Once again, however, Scott McLaughlin was on fire. A 1:07.384 with three minutes left from the Kiwi saw him pip Kirkwood to P1 in Group 2 and end up P1 overall.
