Mari Boya arrives in the 2026 FIA Formula 2 season with confidence earned on track. After finishing P3 in the 2025 FIA Formula 3 Drivers’ Championship, Boya now steps up to F2 with PREMA Racing in 2026. His promotion marks both a personal milestone and a strategic signing for a team determined to return to consistent front-running form after a challenging 2025 F2 campaign.
While speaking to the media, including Pit Debrief, during a pre-season media event, Boya, currently a member of the AMF1 Driver Development Programme, discussed his relationship both with his new F2 team and with the Silverstone-based F1 Team.
Boya on strengthening ties with Aston Martin ahead of 2026 step-up to F2 with PREMA
Boya continues his journey within Aston Martin’s driver structure, a relationship that has evolved steadily over recent seasons. While many young drivers might feel external pressure from manufacturer backing, Boya takes a measured view, recognising opportunity without overcomplicating it. He explained that instead of focusing on long-term hypotheticals, he concentrates on maximising his performance, knowing that strong results will help strengthen professional bonds and open future doors.
“Well, to be honest, I’m really proud and grateful for the opportunity they are giving to me. To be honest, I am not thinking a lot about my relationship with them because since I’m with them, it’s constantly changing. It’s going every time better and better. Results are for sure helping since I’m with them.”
Boya also understands that development programmes evolve alongside performance. Therefore, rather than trying to manage the relationship actively, he allows it to grow organically through results. He expanded on that philosophy, emphasising that for him, success begins and ends with what he delivers behind the wheel.
“Yeah. The relationship with them is getting better and better. So, yeah, I will try just to focus on myself and management-wise, they will try to get the better opportunities for me. I’m trying just to focus on myself, deliver on track, and for sure, this will help.”
Boya embracing new culture and expectations at PREMA ahead of 2026 F2 campaign
Switching teams always demands adjustment, particularly when stepping into a new category. After two seasons within a Spanish structure at Campos Racing, Boya now integrates into PREMA’s Italian environment. Although the setting differs, he quickly identified similarities that eased the transition. He highlighted the openness he encountered from the outset. Feeling welcomed, he explained, allowed him to focus on performance rather than adaptation stress.
“Well, to be honest, I’ve been the last two years working in Campos with a Spanish team. This time, the adaptation was a bit different, but I am, again, thankful to Prema. They’ve been really open to me since the first day. I will say Italian and Spanish people, we are quite similar. And even inside the team, there are some Spanish guys.”
He also addressed the broader atmosphere within PREMA. Despite external perceptions shaped by winter challenges and last season’s inconsistencies, he senses resilience inside the garage.
“The environment, to be honest, with all the difficulties we’ve had this winter, is much better than what the people are expecting. They are working really hard. They are a group of people with a lot of motivation, especially what I feel is that they are a team that they know what is winning because they’ve been dominating a lot in the past.”
That belief in PREMA’s historical strength could prove decisive. Teams that understand how to win often rediscover their edge faster than those still searching for identity.

Focus on engineers and performance stability
Furthermore, Boya’s preparation for his 2026 F2 campaign has remained relatively unaffected by recent shake-ups at the top of PREMA’s organisational structure. While the Rosin family’s departure from the team attracted headlines, Boya’s attention remained firmly on the team’s operational core. He explained that, from a driver’s perspective, daily performance depends on engineers, mechanics and data analysis rather than boardroom developments. Boya also emphasised that the team’s overall objective remains unchanged regardless of adjustments at the senior level. The target, he said, stays clear: maximise performance and consistency.
“So, the goal is still the same with some different people at the top, which for the drivers doesn’t change that much. For us, we deal more with our engineers, with the mechanics and that area. Yeah, we are dealing, but not that much. Our days are more with engineers and mechanics. And well, together with Aston as well, I had to meet a lot of people. And yeah, I think the adaptation has been really good. And I will try to deliver on track that for sure, if it’s that way, everything will go good.”
Boya confident ahead of 2026 rookie F2 season with PREMA
After finishing P3 in F3 in 2025, Mari Boya enters 2026 determined to transform potential into sustained results. With PREMA’s pedigree behind him and Aston Martin’s backing alongside him, he now focuses on consistency — the key ingredient for success in F2.
