Nikita Bedrin produced an outstanding recovery drive to win Race 1 of the 2026 GB3 Championship at Silverstone. Although he started from pole position, he lost ground at the launch and dropped down the order. Nevertheless, he quickly regained composure and used his strong race pace to fight back through the field.

Furthermore, Bedrin’s performance combined controlled aggression with intelligent decision-making, allowing him to reclaim the lead and ultimately secure a commanding victory.

Strong pace drives recovery through the field

Despite a difficult start, Bedrin immediately focused on rebuilding his race. His pace proved decisive as he worked his way back towards the front.

“Yeah, I mean, a really good race. Pretty bad start, of course, but I’ve recovered pretty well from that, I think. We’ve had a really, really good pace, so we’re really happy with that. Yeah, the car feels amazing. The team has done a really good job, so I couldn’t be more happy.”

As a result, he quickly re-established himself as a contender and began applying pressure on the leading group.

The defining moment of the race came when Bedrin executed a well-planned overtaking move to retake the lead. Having attempted a similar manoeuvre earlier, he refined his approach and made it count.

“Yeah, I mean, I’ve done a dummy switchback. I knew it was going to work. I tried it earlier in the race, but I went a bit too deep, and then I just made sure I learned from the mistake, and I did a good move there.”

A late Safety Car introduced an additional challenge, compressing the field and potentially undoing Bedrin’s hard-earned lead. However, he handled the restart effectively and maintained control at the front.

“Yeah, I did a good restart, but then I had to lift a little bit to make sure I didn’t run with the Safety Car, so that’s why I was not so good in the main straight, but I think apart from that, it was quite good. I pulled away later anyway.”

Consequently, he managed the restart phase with precision, before once again extending his advantage over the chasing pack.

Bedrin focused on improving GB3 race starts ahead of Race 2 in Silverstone

Looking ahead, Bedrin acknowledged that his race start remains an area for improvement. Despite securing victory, he recognised the need to refine this aspect to strengthen his overall performance.

“Yeah, I mean, we haven’t had many practice starts, so it’s quite new with this car for me, but for sure, we’re going to learn from it and we’re going to do a better job tomorrow.”

Bedrin’s Race 1 victory sets a strong benchmark for the rest of the Silverstone weekend. His recovery drive not only demonstrated speed but also highlighted his racecraft and adaptability under pressure.

With another pole position secured for Race 2, he will aim to combine a cleaner launch with his proven race pace. Ultimately, if he can improve his starts while maintaining his current level of performance, Bedrin will remain the driver to beat in the upcoming races.
