BMW M Team WRT has revealed its upgraded M Hybrid V8 Hypercar ahead of the 2026 FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC) season, aiming to transform consistent podium finishes into outright race wins. With the forthcoming season marking BMW’s third in the top-tier Hypercar category, the Bavarian manufacturer is seeking to build on a strong foundation of consecutive fifth-place finishes in the Manufacturers’ standings in 2024 and 2025. The team has also re-committed to the series for the long term, signalling ambitious plans for the campaign.

Evo updates and aerodynamic refinements

The 2026-spec BMW M Hybrid V8 features a suite of updates under an ‘Evo’ joker package designed to enhance aerodynamic efficiency and on-track consistency. The most visible changes are to the front end, with a redesigned splitter that optimises airflow and cooling efficiency, a slightly smaller classic BMW ‘kidney grille’, and updated headlights. BMW has focused on refining both performance and reliability across race distances, aiming to elevate the M Hybrid V8 from regular podium contender to race-winner.

BMW to keep strong driver line-up for 2026 WEC campaign

Continuity is key in BMW’s approach, with driver pairings unchanged for the new season. The #15 M Hybrid V8 will be crewed by Kevin Magnussen, Raffaele Marciello, and Dries Vanthoor, while the sister #20 car will feature Robin Frijns, René Rast, and Sheldon van der Linde. Both line-ups bring proven experience and cohesion to the team, combining speed with strategic knowledge of the Hypercar class.

Season schedule and pre-season testing

BMW M Team WRT will begin preparations with the official ‘Prologue’ pre-season test at Italy’s Autodromo Internazionale Enzo e Dino Ferrari on 14 April. The curtain-raising round, the 6 Hours of Imola, will take place at the same circuit from 17-19 April.

The team’s Hypercar campaign will then continue with rounds at Spa-Francorchamps (9 May), Le Mans (13-14 June), Interlagos (12 July), Circuit of the Americas (6 September), and Fuji (27 September). The season concludes with the rescheduled Qatar 1812km on 24 October, followed by the traditional finale in Bahrain on 7 November.
