Having achieved his maiden F2 pole position in Qualifying for the Italian GP, Luke Browning will surely be hoping for a weekend of strong results. With his first Formula 2 race win potentially on the table for the Italian GP Feature Race, the Hitech TGR driver reflected on his Sprint Race result and how he will approach the Feature Race.

Points finish despite chaotic incidents

Browning spent much of the Sprint Race running outside of the points paying positions. Ultimately, he benefited from multiple incidents ahead of him to rise through the pack. Although he started the race from P10, he made progress to finish up in P8.

The key to his points-finish in the Sprint Race was staying out of the trouble around him. Although dissatisfied with the race overall, he seemed confident that the team would be able to turn it into a stronger result on Sunday.

“It went ok. Being honest, there was a lot of carnage in front caused by other people, and I just made the most of that. So, we didn’t have the overall pace today, but I’m just gonna keep on working on what I can do.”

“Honestly, I think I might have been the only one that was staying out of trouble. Everyone around me just seemed to crash and I was making the most of that. So, although we didn’t have the pace today, we’re gonna have it tomorrow. We’ve got a good direction and yeah, I’m looking forward to starting from pole tomorrow.”

Hoping for success with Feature Race pole

In Monza’s F2 Qualifying session, Browning secured his first ever Pole Position in the series.  Hoping for a stronger result from pole, Browning shared that learnings from the Sprint Race will play a key role influencing his set-up for the Feature Race. While setting his sights on his maiden Formula 2 win, the Williams Academy driver reflected on his previous trips to Monza with Formula 3.

“We’ve got very smart guys up there, and I’m sure it’ll be a combination of the way I’m driving it and the way we set up the car that just didn’t quite click today, so I’m sure we’ll get it right tomorrow.”

“It’d be nice to get a win, and I think here, it would be special, especially considering it didn’t quite go our way last year here. So, I’ve got some redemption to go out and earn tomorrow.”
