Following two demanding race weekends, Luke Browning salvaged a crucial fifth-place finish in Sunday’s 2025 Spielberg F2 Feature Race. The Hitech TGR driver, who had previously led the 2025 FIA Formula 2 Drivers’ Championship, started down in 17th but fought his way through the field with a determined and composed drive.

After a difficult outing in Barcelona and a similarly frustrating Qualifying session at the Red Bull Ring, the Briton was eager to turn things around—and did just that with a strong race-day performance.

“Being honest, these last two weekends have been tough, big learning curves,” said the Williams Racing Driver Academy member. “I think it has come at just the right time to put us in a good place for the rest of the year. We are working hard and we are ready to bounce back now going into the rest of the European season. I feel in a good place, the guys did a great job in the race, and we are working together and will try our best.”

Early aggression comes at a cost

Browning’s charge through the pack came at a price. To make early progress, he had to push hard in the opening stint, attacking and defending against multiple rivals. This approach yielded position gains but wore down his tyres faster than ideal, compromising his ability to challenge further up the order.

“It was very intense. With the nature of our race – I had to overtake 11 cars today,” he explained. “It was not easy, I had to push on my tyres early on and maybe suffered a little bit for that at the end.”

Despite lacking the benefit of any Safety Car interruptions to shake up the strategy, Browning and the team executed a clean and effective 2025 Spielberg F2 Feature Race, relying purely on their raw pace and consistency.

“But still, it was a great job from the team, and we were fast. So happy overall. It is not easy. There were no Safety Cars today and that meant the strategy was no different to a normal race. We had to do it all on pace today. In the Sprint, I think we made six places on lap one, and today I think we made up similar. We were flying in the races, it is just a shame that it did not quite come together in Qualifying.”

Aiming for redemption on home soil

With Round 7 now complete, attention shifts to Silverstone—a circuit that Browning knows well and considers a personal favourite. Despite showing strong pace at the British venue in 2024, he missed out on what could have been a Feature Race victory in chaotic conditions. This year, the Hitech driver is focused on converting that speed into a win.

“We are going to go into Silverstone and aiming to stick it on pole. Ready to bounce back. It has escaped us a few times. We have always been the fastest at Silverstone, yet it has not awarded us with points. This year, we are going to be the fastest and win the race, we will try our best to anyway.”

Silverstone marks something of a home race for both team and driver, offering the perfect stage for Browning to reignite his title challenge. While recent results have not matched the highs of the season’s early rounds, Browning’s performance in Spielberg showed resilience and clear determination. With Silverstone next on the calendar, Luke Browning heads home with a point to prove—and the confidence that, when the lights go out, he can fight at the very front once again.
