Race officials abandoned the 2026 CTFROT Race 2 at Teretonga Park after persistent heavy rain and deteriorating track conditions prevented the event from starting. Officials reached the decision following a series of delays that left drivers waiting on track and in the pit lane, with safety concerns increasing as rainfall continued. Although organisers made repeated efforts to proceed, conditions never improved enough to allow competitive running, and the race concluded without a single lap of racing action.
An earlier support race incident compounded the situation after it damaged the tyre barriers, forcing officials to delay the scheduled start while marshals carried out repairs. During this time, drivers remained parked on the wet pit lane as rain continued to fall. Given the conditions experienced during Qualifying 1 and Race 1 earlier in the day, Race Control declared Race 2 a wet race, mandated wet-weather tyres for all competitors and disabled push-to-pass in anticipation of limited grip and visibility.
Unsafe conditions force officials to call off the race
Once marshals completed barrier repairs, officials released the field from the pit lane behind the Safety Car to begin formation procedures. However, standing water immediately became apparent across several sections of the circuit. Drivers and teams reported the absence of a dry racing line, with aquaplaning posing a significant risk even at reduced speeds. Rain continued to fall steadily, and visibility remained poor as the cars circulated slowly toward the grid.
Officials delayed the start again while the drivers sat on track, but conditions showed no signs of improvement. After approximately 30 minutes of delays and ongoing assessment, race officials determined that the circuit no longer provided a safe environment for racing. They abandoned the race before the field completed a single competitive lap.
Because officials abandoned the race prior to the start, the classification remained void and no championship points were awarded. The cancellation concluded a challenging day at Teretonga Park, where extreme weather disrupted the schedule and ultimately prevented Race 2 from taking place. Teams and drivers now look ahead to future rounds, where organisers hope for improved conditions and uninterrupted racing.
