Formula E is returning to China for the 10th and 11th rounds of Season 11. Cupra Kiro is heading to the Shanghai E-Prix with a great momentum following Dan Ticktum scoring a historic first FE podium in Tokyo.
Cupra Kiro showed a breakthrough performance in Monaco on which the team build. In Japan, potential was there from first practice onwards. Ticktum placed fifth in the first race, and in the second race on Sunday, the podium was finally reached.
Team-mate David Beckmann had a tough season so far, but he claimed his best result of the year in Round 9. Consequently, he hopes to build on that.
Strategy will be important, says Ticktum
“Shanghai is a very different style of track compared to what we’ve just had in Monaco and Tokyo,” Dan Ticktum said. “It’s quite a fun circuit to drive, it’s very fast and I think the racing will be good with lots of overtaking. Strategy is going to be very important.”
In fact, he adds: “I feel more confident in our pace on street circuits, and this year, I feel like we haven’t been quite as competitive on open tracks, but we’ll see. It’s nice to have a few races effectively back-to-back, and it’s good to get a bit of a rhythm going.”
Beckmann hopes for a clean weekend
David Beckmann is “really looking forward to racing in Shanghai. It’s a very futuristic city, innovative, and it fits very well with Formula E. As a purpose-built facility, the track is very different to what we had in Monaco and Tokyo and is very fast. In Season 10, there was a lot of tyre degradation, and this will be a very important factor to manage over the weekend.”
“On my side, we’ve been very unlucky over the past few races, but the car is really fast and with Dan securing his first podium, we’re seeing our hard work pay off. Now, we just need to keep our momentum going, have a clean weekend, and hopefully, get a double points finish.”
