Despite a mixed Formula E Madrid E-Prix weekend, Andretti FE Team held on to seventh in the Team Standings, with Jake Dennis’s P6 finish as the team employed different race strategies.
The weekend started strongly for Andretti’s Felipe Drugovich as he led his teammate in FP1 before topping FP2 with the fastest time of 1:38.796. However, in qualifying, neither Andretti driver was able to break through into the Dual stages as Dennis ultimately qualified P11 while Drugovich lined up P20 on the grid.
Drugovich: “A frustrating race”
The inaugural race at the Circuito del Jarama was unique, as it was the first singleheader to include the PIT BOOST feature. Hence, starting at the back of the grid, Durgovich went for an early and aggressive Attack Mode strategy. By the end of his boost, the Brazilian found himself leading the race until he dropped back to take his mandatory PIT BOOST a few laps later. However, Drugovich ultimately crossed the line in P15 after losing positions to drivers who saved their Attack Mode until later in the E-Prix.
Reflecting on yet another weekend without a points finish, Drugovich said:
“It was a frustrating race in the end because I think the strategy was good, but the execution just wasn’t quite there on our side. We showed strong pace and to come through the field and lead the race was good experience. Unfortunately, we made the wrong call on tires in qualifying which put us on the back foot starting at the rear, and that made things more difficult. There are still positives to take, but definitely things we need to review going forward.”
Dennis on his P6 Madrid E-Prix result
Meanwhile, Jake Dennis was one of the drivers who opted for the opposite strategy, delaying his Attack Mode until after his PIT BOOST. This allowed the Brit to make up multiple positions in the closing stages of the Formula E Madrid E-Prix to claim P6 for Andretti.
“Wrapping up a very busy Madrid event and I’m very happy with our sixth-place result,” he shared as the result marked Andretti’s 135th top-ten finish.
“It was a great race with so many fans here, so it’s good that Formula E put on a good show. I think sixth was the maximum today from our side. There are still some things to work on but, nevertheless, we can take those points and continue to improve to be ready in Berlin.”
With that, the Formula E Berlin E-Prix double header is set to take place on May 2-3, 2026.
