Former Formula 2 champion Felipe Drugovich will be behind the wheel of Mahindra’s Formula E challenger in Berlin, in a debut who had definitely been coming for a while.

A long electric journey

The talented Brazilian driver, who is also Aston Martin F1’s Reserve Driver, had made his Formula E debut back in 2022, driving for Maserati in Rome’s rookie testing session. Drugovich had positively impressed under the Italian sun, leading the way in the session packed with big names.

Fast forward to July 2025, Drugovich will have the chance to make his debut in Formula E with Mahindra in the upcoming Berlin rounds. He will fill in for former Formula 1 driver Nyck de Vries, who will instead compete in WEC with Toyota Racing.

The Reserve F1 driver commented on his announcement, highlighting the importance of this moment for him.

“I’m very happy to confirm I will be making my Formula E debut with Mahindra Racing in Berlin. Formula E is a championship I’ve been around for a while now; having tested on several occasions, I’m excited to now get the opportunity to race.”

An interesting debut

Drugovich has completed a private testing session in Spain in order to get to know Formula E ‘s current challenger, the Gen3Evo, ahead of the Berlin races.

He also highlighted the positive season the Indian team has been having so far in 2025, with both drivers Edoardo Mortara and De Vries on the podium.

Mahindra Racing is a fantastic team, one of the championship’s standout names, and it’s clear from their recent results that the new car is a significant step forward. I’m looking forward to working closely with them to prepare for Berlin, and I’m sure we can have a good weekend together.” He concluded, looking forward to having a new opportunity to prove his worth.

A warm welcome

Mahindra Team Principal Frederic Bertrand welcomed Drugovich to the team as well.

It’s very exciting to be able to welcome Felipe to the team for the Berlin E-Prix. It’s been on our radar for a while now that we would need to find a solution for Berlin to substitute for Nyck.

Felipe quickly emerged as the standout candidate, his achievements speak for themselves, and he’s been very impressive when he’s tested a Formula E car in the past.

Drugovich will be one of two Brazilian reserve drivers on track in Berlin, as Sergio Sette Camara will replace Norman Nato for Nissan.

The benefit of having this confirmed so far in advance is that we have had plenty of time to get him fully integrated with the team, to prepare him properly for the race weekend and give him the best opportunity to go out and showcase what he can do.”
