Ed Carpenter Racing announced several team changes ahead of the 2026 IndyCar season. The team saw major improvements last season. Indy 500 winner Alexander Rossi joined the Indianapolis-based team in 2025, bringing knowledge and expertise. Christian Rasmussen scored the team’s first win since 2021 at the 250 Milwaukee Mile. Both drivers will continue with Ed Carpenter Racing for the 2026 IndyCar season. The team aims to continue this momentum into the new year, expanding their leadership and engineering departments.
Ed Carpenter Racing makes changes to leadership team ahead of 2026 IndyCar season
Derek Davidson joins the team’s competition management team, working alongside Team President Tim Broyles. Davidson previously raced in USAC before joining IndyCar. He worked in many areas including fabricator, mechanic, race team operations, and Crew Chief. Davidson spent the past ten years working in team management before joining ECR’s leadership team.
After serving as Race Engineer and Chief Engineer, Matt Barnes steps into the role of Vice President of Competition, overseeing the engineering department. Similar to Broyles, Barnes is one of the ten original hires who still remains with Ed Carpenter Racing ahead of the 2026 IndyCar season.
New race engineer for Alexander Rossi in 2026
With Barnes assuming the Vice President of Competition role, Quentin Montigaud will be Race Engineer for Rossi’s No. 20 car. Montigaud began his engineering career in Formula E. He previously held the role of Performance Engineer for Rossi’s No. 20 car. Pete Craik will remain Race Engineer of the No. 21, a role he has held since Rasmussen’s first race with the team.
Engineering departement upgrades for Ed Carpenter Racing
Robert Gue joins Ed Carpenter Racing’s engineering department ahead of the 2026 IndyCar season. Gue will lead development efforts as Senior Project Engineer.
Additionally, Chase Campbell joins the team as a full-time Strength and Conditioning Coach for Rossi and Rasmussen. Campbell previously worked with college and professional athletes. He also oversees daily pit stop practice and serves as the team’s Pit Stop Coach.
Ed Carpenter Racing will be on track for the first time this season during February 17-18 as part of the Open Test. The 2026 IndyCar season begins in the Streets of St. Petersburg on Sunday, March 1, 2026.
