21st and last in Pit Debrief’s Driver Rankings for the 2025 F1 season is Jack Doohan. The Aussie only got six rounds before getting booted by Alpine. He was replaced by Franco Colapinto. While the Argentine driver did not score any points either, the A525 was less competitive as the year went on.
Jack Doohan on borrowed time even before the 2025 F1 season started
As Pit Debrief reported ahead of the most recent F1 season, Jack Doohan had six races to prove himself or he would be dropped by Alpine. Franco Colapinto was waiting in the wings.
While he batted it off during media sessions at the F1 75 launch event, time was against him.
Costly crashes and incidents
When you are under enormous pressure to perform in your rookie F1 season, mistakes cannot be made. Sadly for Jack Doohan, that happened far too often in a short space of time.
Australia
Following a solid Q2 appearance on his second F1 start at the Australian GP, Doohan’s home race did not last long. Applying too much power out of turn 5 in wet conditions, he lost the car and found the barriers. It was a heavy impact but the driver was okay.
As things stand, his only F1 start at home was heartbreak for the 22-year-old.
Japan
Ryo Hirakawa took Doohan’s drive for FP1 at the Japanese GP. It was part of the mandated rookie running in 2025. At one of the toughest tracks in the world, however, he was instantly on the back foot.
Less than 10 minutes into FP2, car #7 had a massive crash at turn 1. As Doohan did not manually close DRS before sweeping into the corner, he lost rear support and had a huge shunt. While the driver was thankfully okay, his car was in pieces.
Contact with other cars
China Sprint
As he attempted a move on Gabriel Bortoleto at the end of the first F1 Sprint race of the season in Shanghai for P17, Doohan spun Bortoleto around at the hairpin. He was deservedly given a 10-second time penalty for it.
Miami
The final race of Jack Doohan’s F1 career, at least for now, was over immediately. An awkward tangle with Liam Lawson at turn 1 led to the Australian breaking his left front suspension. It was very much in the ‘racing incident’ category.
Flashes of strong pace
In his short time in Formula 1, Jack Doohan did have positive moments.
He outqualified Pierre Gasly by almost 0.3s in Grand Prix qualifying in Miami. He beat him by over half a tenth in Shanghai Sprint qualifying, too.
In Q1 in both Australia and Bahrain he was faster as well, but Gasly found a bigger step in Q2 both times to outqualify him.
Ultimately, however, his race pace versus the Frenchman was generally not at the level Franco Colapinto has shown since the driver from Argentina replaced him.
This is why Jack Doohan is 21st in Pit Debrief’s Driver Rankings for the 2025 F1 season.
