With the F1 2026 testing done and dusted, here’s a compilation of lap count of both the Bahrain tests, along with combination of both Bahrain and Barcelona shakedown.
With lap times not hugely important in pre-season F1 tests, the lap count helps to understand where everyone stands, especially in terms of reliability which is key for the new season. The better the number of laps completed, the better position the team is in, having got their basics right to start off.
The F1 2026 season started off with an unofficial Barcelona shakedown, where some teams shared official lap count, while some didn’t. The two tests in Bahrain, though, had everything official. The list compiled here showcases numbers from the two Bahrain tests to start off.
Who led the way, who faltered in Bahrain
While a secondary list has Barcelona in mix along with the two Bahrain tests albeit the ‘unofficial’ figures marked as ‘UO’ and ‘official’ is a simple ‘O’. Looking at the numbers from the two Bahrain tests, McLaren’s Oscar Piastri stands on top with 443 laps under his belt, followed by Mercedes’ George Russell (425).
Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc (422) is third from Williams’ Carlos Sainz (417) and Red Bull’s Max Verstappen (404) in the Top 5. Only two others reached the 400 mark, in the form of Haas’ Oliver Bearman (402) & Esteban Ocon (400). The fag end of the list had the Aston Martin pair with less than 200 laps.
Among the top teams, Mercedes’ Andrea Kimi Antonelli (296) and Red Bull’s Isack Hadjar (278) had low returns, finishing under the 300 mark. Elsewhere, looking at the teams, McLaren (826) led the way from Haas (802) and Williams (797), with Aston Martin managing only 334 laps.
It was a good return for Williams, considering they skipped the Barcelona shakedown. The power unit manufactures’ numbers sees Mercedes (3,026) on top – unsurprisingly. They crossed the 3000 mark unlike Ferrari (2,146) and Red Bull-Ford (1,417) – the latter two having three and two teams, respectively.
Barcelona added to Bahrain
Looking at the numbers from Barcelona in combination with the two Bahrain tests, Russell leads the way with 690 laps ahead of Leclerc (653) and Ocon (638). Interestingly, Piastri dropped to fourth with 571 laps. But on the teams’ side, Ferrari sits atop with 1,192 laps under their belt.
Haas (1,188) is second and Mercedes (1,123) third, as three other teams crossed the 1000 mark. On manufacturer’s side, Mercedes got 4,168 laps under its belt, despite Williams not testing. Ferrari got 3,136 to be second and Red Bull-Ford in third with 2,039, while Honda only got 400.
