Sunday’s Race 3 for F1 Academy in Canada, saw a Campos Racing front row lockout, after Chambers and Palmowski fought over the top two spots in Practice and Qualifying. Friday’s Qualifying session ultimately saw Chambers coming out just ahead of teammate Palmowski, to take P1 and P2 respectively.

Maya Weug, takes off from P12?, after an incredibly tough Qualifying. The Dutch driver identified an issue with her car in both Practice and Qualifying. The issue she had in Practice was fortunately resolved prior to Qualifying. MP Motorsport were unable to diagnose or fix the issue present in Qualifying in time for another run.

Race 1 and Race 2

F1 Academy Race 1 in Canada, saw Weug’s Championship lead slip away from her, as Pin took the victory, going on to extend her lead on Weug in the standings in Race 2. Weug entered the weekend leading the Championship, with Pin a single point behind her, Chambers tens of points behind Pin. She came out of the first race no longer leading the standings, a 29 point gap growing between herself and Pin by Race 2’s conclusion.

Chambers now sits just two points behind Weug, and will likely take P2 in the standings from her if she can maintain a strong gap in Race 3.

The race start

As the green flag waved, all five lights went out and it was time to race. Chambers led into turn one, Palmowski and Lloyd battled behind her. They made contact through turn three, Palmowski spun after rear contact from Pin, while Lloyd continued on it P2. Palmowski and Lloyd were noted for causing an incident, though it was ruled as no further investigation.

Paatz spun further down the field, into Anagnostiadis, both pinned to the wall. Although Paatz and Anagnostiadis were noted for causing a collision, it was ruled no further investigation. Yellow flags were waved, which quickly turned in a full Safety Car on lap 2. By this point, Weug had moved from P15 to P12, already looking at point paying positions.

Safety Car restart

The Safety Car retreated back to the pit lane at the conclusion of lap 7. Chambers stunned Lloyd with her restart, Lloyd only just sticking with her, Hausmann trailing in P3. Gademan and Pin went side by side through turn one before Pin took P4 from her. Weug moved up on Nobels to take P11, as Felbermayr moves up to P5 after back to back moves on Chong and Gademan.

Contact between Gademan and Felbermayr saw Felbermayr spin and drop back to P16, Gademan dropping to P8. Hausmann did not put up a fight, as Pin overtook her for P3. Larsen moved up to P6 on Ferreira, while Weug moved up again for P8.

Despite continuous battle, Lloyd was yet to find a route past Chambers. While searching for a gap on Ferreira, Block misjudged her breaking and collided with her. Nobels’ misfortune continued, being in the wrong place at the wrong time again, and getting caught out by Ferreira.

Another incident between Felbermayr and Gademan saw Gademan receiving a 10s penalty, after collision in the hairpin.

A Safety Car was released again, as Block’s car sustained too much damage to move. Nobels disembarked her car, visibly upset. Weug sat in P7 at the time of the Safety Car’s release.

The Safety Car ended at the conclusion of lap 12. Despite another great restart from Chambers, Lloyd stuck to her rear. While attempting a move of Chong, Larsen became under the pressure of Weug. Crone received rear contact from Felbermayr, and was spun as a result.

Another Safety Car with three laps to go

A third Safety Car was released, with only the final three laps to go. The allocated race time ended during the first lap under Safety Car, which gave the drivers one more lap, although under Safety Car. The race will not restart, and the order finishes how it entered the Safety Car period.

This meant that Chambers moved into P2 in the standings, taking this from Weug, and closing in on Pin. Concluding the F1 Academy Canada running, Lloyd finished her weekend with three podiums, a great improvement for her.
