Circuit Gilles-Villeneuve was home to Round 4 of the F1 Academy Championship. Competing alongside the 17 full time drivers, was wild card entry Mathilda Paatz. The Canadian GP weekend comprised of three races, after Miami’s Race 2 was postponed. Across these three races, we saw three different race winners, two achieving their maiden race wins. Each race changed the championship standings further.

Pin takes the championship lead from Weug

After Chambers and her teammate Palmowski lined up on the front row of the grid, early incident saw the teammates sustaining damage. Despite this, Chambers maintained her lead while Palmowski dropped right back. Chambers was soon shown an orange and black flag, forced to pit, which allowed Pin to take the lead, converting it to the win.

With Weug heading into Canada only a single point ahead of Pin, this win for Pin put her into the Championship lead, while Weug struggled with issues, later DNFing. Chambers managed to regain position to finish in P9, landing just behind Weug in the standings.

Maiden wins for Felbermayr and Chambers

After a Race 1 disqualification post-race, after being found to be underweight, Felbermayr bounced back in Race 2 to take her maiden win. Felbermayr started Race 2 from P3, but early issues from Chloe Chong saw her promoted to P2. A late race safety car allowed Felbermayr to overtake race leader Gademan through turn 8, to take the win.

Chambers started both Race 1 and Race 3 on pole position, and after misfortune in Race 1, Race 3 was her opportunity for redemption. In a stellar driver, the American led the race from start to end, not only taking her maiden win, but taking P2 in the championship standings from Weug. This leaves Chambers a mere 20 points behind Pin, which she believes is an achievable gap.
