The 2025 F1 Academy Miami GP weekend proved to be a rollercoaster of emotions—full of standout performances, costly errors, and unpredictable weather. While Race 1 offered edge-of-the-seat action and major position changes, Race 2 never truly began, as torrential rain brought proceedings to an early end. From championship hopefuls to local heroes, the weekend produced clear winners—and definite losers.

Winners of the 2025 F1 Academy Miami GP

Doriane Pin – PREMA Racing supported by Mercedes-AMG Petronas

The Mercedes junior delivered a masterclass in Race 1, charging from sixth on the grid to a hard-earned victory. Pin stayed composed amid early chaos, carefully navigating through a field thinned by contact and changeable track conditions. She executed a bold move to seize the lead from Emma Felbermayr after the latter locked up under pressure. From there, Pin managed her tyres and controlled the pace at the front, fending off late-race pressure from Alisha Palmowski. Her drive not only secured her first win of the season but also demonstrated her championship pedigree with a fastest lap to seal the weekend’s momentum in her favour.

Alisha Palmowski – Campos Racing supported by Red Bull Racing

Palmowski continued her strong start to the season with a commanding performance in both qualifying and Race 1. She started fifth but wasted no time climbing the order, eventually overtaking key rivals including Aurelia Nobels. In the closing stages, she mounted a serious challenge to Pin, reducing the gap to within half a second. Although she had to settle for second place, her racecraft and consistency shone through once again. Moreover, her front-row start for Race 2—despite its cancellation—reflected her adaptability in tough, rain-affected qualifying conditions.

Chloe Chambers – Campos Racing supported by Red Bull Ford

Miami marked a homecoming for the American, and she rose to the occasion in style. In a rain-interrupted qualifying session, Chambers delivered an early flying lap that proved unbeatable as conditions worsened. Her 2:00.458 lap time earned her a maiden F1 Academy pole position, much to the delight of the local crowd. Although Race 2 was ultimately cancelled, her pace in mixed conditions and ability to seize the moment suggest she is growing in confidence and could be a serious contender in upcoming rounds.

Losers of the 2025 F1 Academy Miami GP

Emma Felbermayr – Rodin Motorsport supported by Kick Sauber

What began as a golden opportunity quickly unravelled for Felbermayr. Starting from reverse-grid pole in Race 1, she made a solid initial getaway but soon succumbed to pressure, locking up and damaging her front wing. The incident cost her several places, and she later received a warning for excessive movement under braking. In the Race 2 formation lap, her struggles in the wet intensified—running off at Turn 17 and spinning on the main straight. Ultimately, she finished the weekend at the back of the pack, having failed to convert promising grid positions into results.

Lia Block – ART Grand Prix supported by Williams Racing

Despite starting both races inside the top five, Block failed to capitalise on her strong qualifying pace. In Race 1, she was caught up in a collision triggered by Ella Lloyd and never fully recovered, finishing down the order. Though she pulled off an aggressive move on Nobels later in the race, it was deemed illegal and earned her a five-second penalty that dropped her to tenth. With Race 2 cancelled, she missed her chance to rebound, making Miami a weekend of frustration for the American.

Ava Dobson – Wild Card Entry – Hitech TGR supported by Morgan Stanley

As the Wild Card entrant for the Miami round, Dobson aimed to make the most of her opportunity in front of a home audience. However, her weekend never gained momentum. A grid penalty following Free Practice 2 pushed her to the back of the Race 2 starting order, and she remained largely anonymous in Race 1. The cancellation of Race 2 sealed her fate, denying her a second chance to showcase her skills. It was a disappointing debut that left more questions than answers.

A weekend of opportunities and setbacks

The 2025 F1 Academy Miami GP was a weekend that provided both triumph and disappointment, with standout performances from emerging talents and some costly errors. Doriane Pin proved her mettle, taking victory in a chaotic Race 1 and demonstrating the consistency needed to stay at the top. Alisha Palmowski’s second-place finish only reinforced her position as one of the season’s most consistent drivers. Chloe Chambers also stood out with her pole position in challenging conditions, showing she has the potential to challenge for wins.

On the flip side, drivers like Emma Felbermayr, Lia Block, and Ava Dobson were left frustrated, as mistakes, penalties, and the cancellation of Race 2 disrupted their weekends. For Felbermayr and Block, what seemed like an opportunity to shine turned into a missed chance to gain vital points. Dobson, on the other hand, never had the chance to showcase her abilities fully.

With the F1 Academy championship still wide open, all eyes will turn to Montreal in June. The Miami GP reminded everyone that while raw speed and qualifying performances are crucial, consistency and strategy will ultimately define who emerges as the title contenders. For those who faced setbacks, the challenge now is to bounce back stronger.
