Qualifying for the 2025 F1 Dutch GP is now complete, with the full report and results from the session below.

Lando Norris was the favourite to take pole before the session, with the Briton leading all three practice sessions before qualifying – including final practice – but it was Oscar Piastri who snatched pole from him.

Q1

The session started in nice and dry conditions, despite pre-weekend concerns of a wet session.

Yuki Tsunoda was the first out on track in his Red Bull, followed by Esteban Ocon’s Haas.

Tsunoda set a 1:10.661 for his first lap, but was quickly beaten by Ollie Bearman’s Haas by four tenths, before Lewis Hamilton pipped the Briton by 0.038s to take top spot.

Lance Stroll had a hefty impact with the barriers at the final corner, after clipping the grass on the corner entry. The Aston Martin went spinning into the wall, with the front first into the wall and then the rear. The Canadian managed to keep going and return to the pits despite his severe rear and front wing damage.

Max Verstappen then took the top spot away from Lewis Hamilton with a 1:09.754, but was quickly usurped by the dominant force of the McLarens, as Norris went fastest with a 1:09.469, 0.158s clear of Piastri.

Ferrari’s struggles at Zandvoort continued to hinder the team, as the second run for both Leclerc and Hamilton failed to deliver any sort of pace, as Leclerc went only 14th fastest with a 1:10.387, while Hamilton bailed out of his lap, leaving him a lowly 11th.

With the final runs still to go, the elimination zone consisted of Bortoleto 16th, Tsunoda 17th, Colapinto 18th, Ocon 19th, and Stroll in 20th – the latter out of his car after the earlier crash, and not heading back out.

The two McLarens were the first to take the track, with Oscar Piastri improving to P1 despite being on a set of used tyres, taking the top spot by 0.131s with a 1:09.338.

Ferrari escaped the relegation with late laps from Hamilton and Leclerc improving them to P9 and P10, respectively.

Franco Colapinto seemed to have booked himself a spot in Q2, before a late effort from Yuki Tsunoda relegated him to 16th.

Nico Hulkenberg couldn’t find a way out of the elimination zone and ended up P17 despite improving his time. The German headed the two Haas’ cars of Ocon and Bearman in 18th and 19th, respectively, with Stroll in last place after not setting a time.

Q2

First out on track were the two Ferraris of Leclerc and Hamilton, with the Monegasque setting a 1:10.034, and went 0.106s faster than his team-mate.

The rest of the drivers waited about four minutes into the session to go out on track, with George Russell immediately taking the top spot from them by four tenths with a rapid lap, before he was usurped by home hero Max Verstappen, who set a 1:09.122, and took P1 by nearly half-a-second.

But that didn’t last long, as Lando Norris took to the track and smashed Verstappen’s time, setting a 1:08.874, with his team-mate Oscar Piastri just 0.09s behind.

Ferrari’s second run looked much more promising, with Hamilton and Leclerc jumping to fourth and fifth, respectively, just four tenths off Norris.

Max Verstappen wasn’t impressed by running across a slow-moving Lando Norris in his fast lap, saying that was “dangerous” over the radio.

On the bubble ahead of the final dash were both Mercedes of Antonelli and Russell in 7th and 9th, respectively, Yuki  Tsunoda in 8th and Alex Albon in 10th place.

Before the final runs, the relegation zone consisted of: Alonso 11th, Lawson 12th, Sainz 13th, Bortoleto 14th, Gasly 15th.

Both Mercedes improved to 6th and 7th for Russell and Antonelli. Yuki Tsunoda failed to improved and stayed ninth, before he was relegated to the elimination zone by Carlos Sainz – who went 8th quickest – and former Red Bull driver Liam Lawson, who moved into an impressive P7 late on.

Fernando Alonso’s first and only run on new tyres in Q2 propelled the Spaniard up to P7, relegating Kimi Antonelli’s Mercedes out of qualifying as well.

Alex Albon was another of the drivers knocked out, and expressed deep frustration over the radio with Williams’s tyre preparation.

Gabriel Bortoleto wasn’t impressed with Yuki Tsunoda, calling the Japanese driver “blind” over the radio after what looked like a slight impeding incident on the final runs.

Q3

Contrary to the pattern seen the whole weekend, Oscar Piastri went faster than Lando Norris in the first runs, beating his team-mate by 12 milliseconds after setting a record-breaking 1:08.662.

There was a big gap of over three tenths to their next best rivals, with Max Verstappen slotting into P3 with a 1:09.148, two tenths clear of Russell in P4, who was a further three tenths clear of the two Ferraris of Hamilton and Leclerc, in fifth and sixth respectively.

Further down, Isack Hadjar headed the midfield, ahead of Alonso, Sainz and Lawson in 10th.

With the second runs, neither McLaren driver improved their times, meaning Piastri secured what looked like an unlikely pole position heading into qualifying.

Max Verstappen set the fastest middle sector of the session in his final lap, but couldn’t topple the McLarens and ended just over two-and-a-half tenths back.

Isack Hadjar was the star of the session, grabbing P4 with his late effort, just over half-a-second back from the pole position.

Behind him, George Russell secured P5, ahead of the two Ferraris of Leclerc and Hamilton, with Lawson, Sainz and Alonso rounding out the top 10.
