Team principal Fred Vasseur received a vote of confidence from Ferrari chairman John Elkann. Again rumours popped up that former Red Bull Racing boss Christian Horner could be replacing the Frenchman.
Following the poor start by the Scuderia in 2025, Horner was linked to the team. This circled around the time of his departure as a Red Bull team principal after this year’s British GP. Not much later Vasseur was announced to stay for another few years in Maranello, effectively shutting down the rumour mill.
Elkann confirmed his trust in Vasseur. Speaking at the 50th anniversary of the National Italian American Foundation he said: “I want to express our full confidence in team principal Fred Vasseur and in the work he is doing together with all his colleagues at Scuderia Ferrari – the mechanics, engineers and drivers who are busy this weekend in Austin.
“I would also like to reiterate the importance of teamwork on everyone’s part in order to maintain focus on the only goal that matters: always giving our best on the track.”
Vasseur appreciative of Elkann’s comments on Ferrari team
Vasseur addressed the press after Charles Leclerc podium in the US GP last Sunday. He was was pleased with the support by Elkann.
“For everybody it’s good to have this kind of message,” Vasseur said. “But as we have a permanent contact, we already had the message. [Elkann’s remark] was more for the third party and external target.”
Knowing a Ferrari team boss is always under scrutiny, the 57-year old added: “Yes, it’s important [for me personal]. Because, like this, you stop the discussion and you are focused on the next one and not to reply to all the questions about this.”
