It’s the final day of Formula E track action for the London E-Prix, and we begin it with FP3. Mitch Evans set the fastest lap of the session, with Pascal Wehrlein and Stoffel Vandoorne following behind.
Green light kicks off FP3 for London E-Prix
The green light is being displayed at the end of the pit lane for FP3 in London, as the drivers emerge on track. On the menu, we first got some build laps that are being carried out in the first few minutes to warm up the tyres and prepare for the push laps.
Yellow flags were waved at Turn 2 for Vandoorne, who went wide into Turn 1 into the run-off area and touching the barrier. Back to green flag it is. With 30 minutes to go, we got first representative lap times of 1:09’s, with Mortara leading the way. Hughes not on track yet due to an electrical issue.
TV replays show de Vries being millimetres away from the wall, as he gets around the outside of Vandoorne. Günther also had a moment into Turn 16 behind Vergne. And Di Grass locked up heavily into Turn 1 too. At this point, Mortara leads with a 1:07.392, as first 350kW laps were set.
Halfway through the session
We are 20 minutes into the session, most drivers were in the pit lane for some modifications. De Vries on his lap had a big moment in the chicane, jumping over the concrete part of the Turn 9 apex. He continued on and is fourth. Those who were in the pits, were now back on track.
Nato without Attack Mode yet just set a lap time of 1:07.619 – up to brief P4 for the Frenchman. Then it was Ticktum, also without the 350kW power, who took the lead with a 1:07.270. Strong lap by the Cupra driver. He proceeds to pit then, preparing for his actual push lap with the 50kW extra power.
With 6 minutes to go, it’s Race 1 pole sitter Evans, who just took the lead away from Ticktum. Buemi improved to 8th place, just ahead of teammate Frijns.
Finals moments
Going into the final few minutes of the final practice session, Wehrlein on his lap had a mighty sector 1 and carried through the strong pace, up to the lead, just missing out on the first 1:06 lap time of the weekend.
Interestingly, both McLaren’s are down on P20 and P21. Both pit, so that’s the finishing position for them. Evans could just beat Wehrlein on his final lap… and he does so – first driver to be in the 1:06’s! Replays show that Di Grassi went into the back of Günther, who just prepared a push lap.
Stay tuned for qualifying in under two hours, as well as the race later today!
