It’s been the season finale! Nick Cassidy wins the second Formula E race of the London E-Prix this weekend, ahead of Nyck de Vries and Sebastien Buemi after an exciting 36 laps!

Race start: Mortara out – track position crucial

The five red lights are out, and away we go! Cassidy keeps the lead ahead of Günther who tried to overtake into Turn 1. There has been some contact and Mortara is slow and stopped at Turn 10. He has been involved in the first lap chaos. Everyone else have made it through in one piece.

Evans tried to overtake Günther – the Jaguar’s would be in a great position if it’s a 1-2. On a second try it works, as Günther left some space open while trying to overtake Cassidy. Wehrlein lost a position to de Vries. Rowland up to P6, while Ticktum is down to P8. Bird and Müller already took attack mode.

Günther loses places, as de Vries divebombs the DS Penske and also Wehrlein slips through! Also, de Vries and Rowland are up to P2 and P3. A lot going on – everyone tries to get to the front to have track position ahead of the attack mode. Wehrlein now takes it but is in traffic – a lot of fighting.

Early use of first attack mode to find positions

Rowland on attack mode cuts off Müller, who is in the Top 5 after using his first attack mode. Ticktum is pitting. Rowland into the wall while trying to overtake de Vries, but he keeps going to attack… until a full course yellow has been called for Nato and Barnard! Both came together and now pit. Barnard out.

Cassidy has more energy to use then Rowland and on attack mode runs away. Rowland reports that de Vries was very dangerous in their incident. He has damage to his front wing. Meanwhile, Müller had some space behind, so he takes his second attack mode. Evans received a 5-second time penalty for overspeeding under FCY.

De Vries on attack mode overtakes Evans for third place behind Rowland and the Nissan driver has no chance himself. Evans tried to overtake Rowland and they nearly collide at Turn 17. Müller with attack mode overtakes de Vries, and then proceeds to take out Rowland’s rear looking camera.

Safety Car caused after Rowland/Müller collision

Rowland and Müller are out after going into Turn 1! Müller overtook him on the straight, Rowland tried to come back but went straight. He then drove into the Andretti before going into the barrier. The collision caused a safety car. During that, Evans was told that everyone used attack mode – he didn’t yet!

SC into the pits, race restart. Evans lunges down the inside of de Vries and immediately creates a gap for Cassidy – great team work. And he takes his first attack mode and stays ahead of de Vries, which helps his teammate a lot. He is also told to create the gap again, as he is 0.5 seconds behind Cassidy.

Evans is then first told to stay in positions and then about his penalty. Same penalty was also given to Ticktum, who was then given a further 5 second time penalty for causing a collision with Nato.

Final few laps

Entering the final few laps, Cassidy finally is on attack mode again – this time six minutes. Evans behind him, as well as de Vries on attack mode too. Jaguar is being asked by Evans to give a tow by Cassidy, but he is 3 seconds behind. Nevertheless, Jaguar tries to help, but Cassidy is off to the horizon.

The stewards add 2 more laps to the race due to the FCY and safety car phase. Wehrlein seems to have issues, as he fell back to P10. Beckmann is right behind him and could grab 10th place and his first Formula E point here…

Cassidy controlled the race here, as Evans holds strong despite he wasn’t helped by his teammate here. And big celebration on David Beckmann’s side, as the young rookie finally takes his first point, after Ticktum was relegated down to P14 with his penalty!
