2025 Formula 2 Driver Champion Leonardo Fornaroli is the recipient of the Anthonie Hubert Award. He joins a very exclusive list of winners alongside the likes of Gabriel Bortoleto, Oscar Piastri and Zhou Guanyu.
Stepping up to F2 this season, the Italian went on to secure back-to-back titles and played a pivotal role in leading Invicta Racing to consecutive championships, securing both the Teams’ and Drivers’ Championship for a second year running. Lining up alongside experienced teammate Roman Staněk, the 21 year-old appeared unfazed throughout his campaign, with his trademark consistency once again paying dividends.
A dominant rookie season
After a season marked by impressive performances and consistency, Fornaroli earned the honour of receiving the Antoine Hubert Best Rookie award. He’d ended the 2025 F2 season with a total of four wins and five additional podium-finishes to his name. At the penultimate round in Qatar, the Italian sealed the 2025 F2 title heading into the season finale. By the end of the season, Fornaroli had placed 36 points between him and runner-up Jak Crawford.
Off the back of his success, the Italian was recently announced as the newest addition to the McLaren Driver Development Programme, alongside Richard Verschoor.
While receiving the award at the 2025 FIA Formula 2 and 3 Prize Giving Ceremony, Fornaroli spoke on what an honour it was to receive the award and emphasised the impact Hubert has on the younger upcoming generation of drivers.
“I was with a new team in a new car which was a challenge for me, but it has been amazing from the first day with Invicta. They were always able to make me feel comfortable during every race weekend and to take the Championship in my first year, it’s amazing.”
“I could not have asked for more and it’s important to receive this trophy, which represents Anthoine Hubert, who was an amazing driver and an inspiration for me. So it’s truly a pleasure to take this trophy as well.”
