PREMA Racing’s Freddie Slater claimed victory in Race 1 of the Formula Regional European Championship by Alpine (FRECA) finale at Monza and secured the 2025 FRECA Championship, full report and results below.

Heading into the first race of the finale, Slater held a strong advantage over his closest rival, Trident’s Matteo De Palo, after qualifying on the front-row. This brings the Briton one step closer to being crowned the 2025 FRECA Champion. De Palo could only manage P7, while ART Grand Prix’s Evan Giltaire stole the spotlight with an impressive performance, taking pole positions by four tenths over Slater. Starting from P2, the Briton must win the race to secure the title today. However, going off the front-row, Giltaire and Slater will lead the pack down to the Rettifilo chicane.

Lights out for Race 1!

Pulling up to the grid, Giltaire was seen positioning his car towards Slater. However, as the lights went out, it was a great launch off the line for Giltaire who quickly cut across the track to defend from Slater. From third, Pedro Clerot got a better launch off the line as he tried to get past Slater.

Further down the field, several incidents unfolded as Jack Beeton was seen spinning into the gravel. Meanwhile out in-front, Slater attempted a move around the outside of Giltaire at Lesmo. Although De Palo had now found himself in P5, the Italian sustained significant front-wing damage but still managed to continue for a few more laps.

Safety car for Beeton

Soon enough, the first safety car of the race was deployed for Beeton, who sustained significant damage to his car that ultimately forced him to retire. Meanwhile, Jin Nakamura managed to make his way back into the pits after he found himself involved in the first-lap incident as well.

Once the safety car returned to the pits, Giltaire aced the restart as Slater looked for a move down the inside of the Frenchman. However, an impressive effort from Akshay Bohra didn’t go unnoticed as he’d made his way from P18 to P8. However, as De Palo defends, the Italian momentarily ran off the track and further damaged his front-wing. He soon dropped down the order and was seen heading into the pits for a new front-wing.

Second safety car for three-car incident

Heading into Lesmo, Michael Belov ran into the back of James Egozi. Both drivers spun as they sent Hiyu Yamakoshi spinning into the barriers as well. As chaos continued to unfold, Bohra found now himself in P5. De Palo was now up to P19 and was trying to salvage anything out of this race.

As it stood the Top 5 were Giltaire, Slater, Clerot, Taito Kato and Akshay Bohra. As 13 minutes remained, the safety car was still out. Soon enough, the track went green once again as Giltaire restarted the race as they headed out of Parabolica. Into the rettifilo chicane, the Top 4 went into the first corner almost four wide. Catching Ruiqi Liu off guard, Dion Gowda lunged down the inside and claimed P6.

Meanwhile, out in-front, Giltaire and Slater continued to fiercely battle. The Frenchman managed to hold firm and fend off from the charging Briton for a moment. However, Giltaire locked up his tyres as he ran off the track, with Slater following as he dipped his wheel into the gravel. Further down the field, De Palo was now in P16. Slater tucked behind into Giltaire’s slipstream and attempted a move but was unsuccessful once again.

Enzo Deligny found his way into the Top 10. As it stood R-ace GP was now another step closer to claiming the Teams’ title. However, at the front of the field, Giltaire and Slater continued to be in control of the race.

Slater hunts Giltaire down

Heading down into Turn 1, a cloud of smoke emerged as Giltaire locked his tyres up again. As three minutes remained, Slater continued to trail behind Giltaire. Down the inside of the Frenchman into Parabolica, Slater claimed the lead with time to spare.

After fitting a new front-wing, De Palo managed to make his way to P12. However, for the title fight to stay alive, the Italian needed to finish in the Top 7. With Slater in the lead now, the Briton started to pull away.

Further down the field, Liu managed to pass Przyrowski to claim P9. As a minute remained, De Palo made his way through to claim P11 but ultimately ran out of time. However, crossing the line victorious, Slater saw the chequered flag waving first and was crowned the 2025 FRECA Champion!
