Rodin Motorsport’s newly crowned champion Alex Ninovic topped the times in both GB3 Championship test sessions at Monza on Thursday. The Australian driver recorded a best lap of 1m43.573s around the legendary Italian circuit in the first session, before posting a 1m43.726s at the end of the day. As a result, Ninovic ended the day just 0.064s clear of Noah Lisle of JHR Developments, while Kabir Anurag of Xcel Motorsport completed the top three ahead of his second weekend in the championship.
A strong start to the Monza finale weekend
Importantly, Ninovic’s benchmark came in the first session, where all of the top four drivers set their best times. Enzo Tarnvanichkul placed fourth for VRD Racing, confirming that the morning conditions were slightly more favourable for outright pace. Meanwhile, Deagen Fairclough improved by 0.167s in the second session compared with his earlier run, which allowed the Hitech TGR driver to climb to fifth overall on the combined times. He finished ahead of Reza Seewooruthun of Argenti with Prema, who was sixth quickest thanks to his morning performance.
The remainder of the top ten all delivered their best laps during the second session, as track temperatures stabilised and grip improved. Jack Sherwood of Xcel Motorsport narrowly beat Keanu Al Azhari of Hitech TGR by just 0.006s, while Gianmarco Pradel of Rodin Motorsport and Patrick Heuzenroeder of Xcel completed the top ten. Notably, the first ten drivers were covered by only 0.538s, highlighting the tight competition throughout the field.
The top fifteen were all within a second, further underlining the closeness of the pack. Zhenrui Chi was the quickest newcomer in 15th for Hillspeed, just ahead of his teammate Maxim Rehm in 16th. Further down the order, Isaac Phelps, the GB4 runner-up, finished 20th as he prepared for his maiden GB3 event with Elite Motorsport. Testing at Monza continues tomorrow with two 45-minute sessions, the first beginning at 09.00.
