Prema Racing’s team manager, Goffredo Pirro, targets further improvements following the F1 Academy Dutch GP, which yielded satisfactory results. The Zandvoort race weekend opened a 45-point lead for Prema in the team standings. Strengthening their rule over Campos and the rest of the grid, the three drivers achieved impressive results.
Despite Nina Gademan’s first win during Race 1 of her home Grand Prix, Doriane Pin’s podium and Tina Hausmann’s P5 finish in Race 2, Pirro remained hungry for greatness. While he did not call himself dissatisfied, Pirro commented on the missed-out Race 2 victory.
Overall thoughts
Goffredo Pirro recognised the importance of Prema’s results for the F1 Academy title battle. However, the team manager admitted to a slight sense of disappointment. He claimed his team can “look for more” in terms of wins.
“Happy, yes. Let’s say satisfied. It’s a positive weekend — we scored a lot of points and we extended our lead in the Teams’ Standings, which is important for us as a team.
“However, you always want more. One win is good; two wins would have been great. It’s been a solid weekend overall, so we can be happy. But we can look for more.”
During the F1 Academy Dutch GP weekend, Doriane Pin managed to keep her advantage over her biggest rival this season, Maya Weug. The team manager praised their star driver, highlighting her skills and competence behind the wheel.
“She’s built this lead on consistency and a little bit of good fortune as well with issues for competitors. We’ve been good enough so far to avoid them. And she’s been able to bring home every result that she can. At the end of the day, that’s all you can do.”
Title contention with Pin
Heading into the last two rounds on the F1 Academy calendar, Singapore and Las Vegas, Pirro recognised the need for hard work from Prema. In order to win the Drivers’ Championship, Pin will require a reliable and competitive car. No matter what, the French driver will have to push herself to the max of her abilities.
“In the next rounds, we need to remain competitive. Which is something that, from a team’s perspective, we need to work on hard. From her perspective, she needs to just hit her marks, drive well and do what she can. If she can finish P2, she has to finish P2. If she can win, she has to win. That’s how we’re going to get to the end of the season.
Goffredo Pirro has a clear outcome in mind for the title battle. It will be difficult, yet his focus will be on keeping that Prema machinery ready to bring on those victories.
Gademan’s full season with Prema
Nevertheless, Prema Racing has more prospects this year, with Nina Gademan the talking point of the F1 Academy Dutch GP. Besides this weekend marking her 22nd birthday, the Dutch driver came back from being declared unfit for FP2.
She put her car into pole for the reverse grid race, and kept it there all the way to the checkered flag. An emotional podium was in order, where Gademan was incredibly moved by her achievement in front of her home crowd.
“She got a bit of bad luck, but it doesn’t take away from the work that she’s put in,” Pirro went on to say, referring to some car problems Gadema had to deal with at the beginning of the 2025 season. “Of course, bringing the trophy home is something more.
“I trust that this isn’t going to change her mindset a lot. She’s already working hard; she doesn’t need to do much more. She just needs to keep on going, and it’s just going to work out for her as time goes on.”
Last two rounds of the season
Determined to keep up the momentum, Pirro reflected on the last two challenges for Prema and its F1 Academy drivers. Coming into Singapore and Las Vegas, those two GPs will bring unique requirements in terms of the car. Yet, Pirro stays confident, despite F1 Academy’s knack for chaos.
“It’s got some corner profiles that we’ve been good at so far, but every track is different, every track’s a challenge,” he went on to explain about the Singapore circuit. “In F1 ACADEMY, the races are quite unpredictable, whether it be weather, Safety Cars, whatever it is.”
Concluding his interview, the Prema Racing team manager had his goals set. After the success of the Dutch GP, Pirro admitted to remaining focused on the task ahead and what they can control.
“We’ve had everything happen so far. We have to just stay on it and make sure we’re making the right calls, adapt in the right way and keep on the road that we’ve been going on so far.”
