Mahindra Racing has officially announced the return of Indian F2 driver Kush Maini for the upcoming ABB FIA Formula E World Championship Rookie Test.
The test, scheduled to take place on 14 July at the Tempelhof Airport Street Circuit, marks yet another exciting chapter in the growing partnership between Maini and Mahindra. India’s only racing team is competing at the pinnacle of global electric motorsports.
This marks the second outing in the Mahindra M11Electro for Maini. Earlier in the season, the Alpine junior turned heads with a standout performance in the Jeddah rookie session. This came as Maini set the fastest time of the session on his debut in Formula E’s new GEN3 Evo era.
His familiarity with the team dates back to Season 10, when he served as Mahindra Racing’s official Reserve Driver. He also took part in last year’s rookie session around Berlin. His return to the same venue this year signals Mahindra’s continued trust in his abilities and development.
Reflecting on the opportunity
Outside of Formula E, Maini has been equally impressive in the Formula 2 Championship. He recently took a commanding victory on the streets of Monaco. Adding to an already impressive resume that includes two career wins and seven podium finishes in the series.
Reflecting on the opportunity in FE, Maini was enthusiastic about his ongoing journey with Mahindra Racing.
“I was impressed with the Mahindra M11Electro in Jeddah, it’s a great car to drive and I can’t wait to experience it again in Berlin. Mahindra is a manufacturer I’ve worked with first-hand a lot over the last 18 months. I’ve seen the hard work and development that has gone into improving the team’s results on-track.
“It’s a great source of pride for me to represent them and to help them push on. Keeping that rate of development going.”
Frederic Bertrand, Mahindra Racing’s CEO and Team Principal, reinforced the importance of the rookie program and Maini’s role within the team.
“The whole point of the Berlin Rookie Test is to encourage and nurture the next generation of potential Formula E stars, and Kush is a talent to watch in that regard.
“We’ve been very impressed with his performance and attitude every time he’s stepped into a Mahindra Racing car so far. We look forward to working with him again in Berlin.”
