Kyle Kirkwood finished 4th at Road America as the three-time winner in the 2025 IndyCar season is now the only driver within 100 points of Alex Palou in the standings. The Spaniard’s win puts him 93 clear of the Andretti driver.

It was a race full of action throughout the IndyCar field as Road America delivered, and Kyle Kirkwood was in plenty of it himself.

The driver of car number 27 overtook Palou at the start to take 3rd. By the end of lap 4, however, he was down to 6th.

After getting overtaken by Lundgaard at turn 6 on the restart, Kirkwood had Will Power and Alex Palou behind him. As the Aussie desperately tried to fend off the CGR driver, he broke way too late at Canada Corner. The Andretti star had to take avoiding action, gifting Palou two spots in the process.

10 laps later it all kicked off again between Kirkwood and Power following another restart. This time it was the Andretti driver as the aggressor, running himself and the Penske wide as he was down the inside. Who benefitted from it? Alex Palou once again. The Spaniard had dropped down the order after losing out in the pit stop sequence.

To cap off a crazy day at Canada Corner, Kirkwood had to take avoiding action as a spinning Arrow McLaren of Christian Lundgaard appeared on the exit of it. The Andretti driver took to the grass and did well to avoid crashing.

Nonetheless, Kirkwood finished P4. Felix Rosenqvist drove away from him after overtaking the American following their penultimate stops, with the Swede taking 2nd.

He did not have enough pace to catch Santino Ferrucci at the end for P3 either, summing up a day where Andretti lack the speed to fight for the victory.

Kyle Kirkwood on IndyCar Road America result

“That was a good result. I will definitely take fourth with the kind of performance that we had there.

“I mean, man, that was a crazy race. Especially since the first half of it was a split strategy. It was everyone throwing huge divebombs at each other, which caused that split strategy, but the No. 27 Siemens Honda came out with another top five, so I’m stoked with that. I think that was an overachievement today, so I love to see it.

“Also, I think we kind of leaned toward the red tyres today, but neither tyre was bad. Firestone came here with a good product, so I’m happy to be running them.”
