South Korean teenager Kyuho Lee will make his GB3 Championship debut this season after signing with Elite Motorsport. The 17-year-old takes the next step in his career following a rapid rise through international karting and Formula 4 competition.
Lee entered car racing in 2025 and delivered an impressive first season. He scored multiple top-10 finishes and claimed Rookie success across the Middle East F4, Southeast Asia F4 and Spanish F4 Championships. He also competed in the Macau F4 World Cup last November, adding valuable experience on one of motorsport’s most demanding stages.
Strong karting foundations boost transition into 2026 GB3 with Elite Motorsport
Lee began karting in 2017 and quickly established himself as one of South Korea’s standout young talents. He won the Korean National Championship and represented his country at the RMC Grand Finals in 2018, 2021 and 2023. He also competed in the 2022 FIA Karting Academy Trophy.
His first full international karting campaign came in 2024. Lee secured a podium finish in the Dutch-Belgian Championship, achieved multiple top-10 results in the IAME Euro Series and finished seventh in the FIA International Karting Ranking for X30 Seniors. He capped the season by winning the FIA OK-N World Cup.
Lee continues his development as a member of the Genesis Magma Racing Trajectory Programme. The initiative aims to grow the profile of motorsport in South Korea while supporting emerging talent. Lee will carry Genesis Magma branding on his race suit and car throughout the 2026 season.
Lee targets growth and results in debut GB3 campaign with Elite Motorsport in 2026
As he prepares for his first GB3 campaign, Lee outlined a clear development-led approach. He emphasised the importance of consistency, technical understanding and adaptability while maintaining competitive ambitions within a highly challenging field.
Speaking ahead of the season, Lee highlighted the need to balance immediate performance goals with longer-term career progression as he enters one of Europe’s most competitive junior single-seater championships.
“My goal this year is to show steady progress, score points regularly, step on the podium and win races but also build a strong foundation that prepares me for the next stage of my career. I chose GB3 because it’s one of the most competitive and well-structured junior single-seater championships in Europe. It offers a very high technical level, featuring strong teams, excellent circuits and a clear pathway towards FIA Formula 3 and beyond.”
Lee identified the GB3 Championship as a crucial step for drivers aiming to establish themselves within the European single-seater ladder. He pointed to the depth of competition and the technical demands of the series as key factors in his decision.
“For a driver aiming to build a serious long-term motorsport career in Europe, GB3 is the ideal environment to develop race craft, technical understanding and mental strength against top-level competition.”
Focus on adaptation and consistency
Entering the championship as a rookie, Lee stressed the importance of rapid adaptation across multiple areas, including car behaviour, tyre characteristics and race formats. He underlined consistency as a priority throughout the season.
“As a rookie, my main focus this year is development, consistency and learning. I want to adapt quickly to the car, understand the tyres and race formats and deliver clean, competitive performances throughout the season.”
Lee reflected on his initial transition from karting to car racing, describing 2025 as a foundational season centred on learning rather than results. He explained how that experience now underpins his move into GB3.
“My first year in cars was in 2025, which was mainly focused on learning and adaptation rather than immediate results. Coming from a strong karting background, I used the season to understand key car racing fundamentals such as aerodynamics, tyre management, race strategy and working closely with engineers.”
Confidence in Elite Motorsport environment
Looking ahead to the new campaign, Lee highlighted Elite Motorsport’s reputation for driver development as a decisive factor in his signing. He pointed to the team’s technical experience and professional structure as key strengths.
“Elite Motorsport has a proven record of developing young drivers and achieving strong results in GB3. What impressed me most was their clear focus on driver development, the experience of their engineering team and their structured, professional approach.”
Lee concluded by underlining the importance of operating within a supportive and feedback-driven environment during his rookie season. He expressed confidence that Elite Motorsport provides the platform required to accelerate his development and unlock his potential.
“As a Rookie, it is very important to be in an environment where learning, feedback and support are prioritised. I believe Elite Motorsport is the best team to help me grow, gain confidence and maximise my potential in my first GB3 season.”
Elite Motorsport welcomes new talent
Elite Motorsport enters the new GB3 season with a strong record of developing young drivers, and the team views Lee’s signing as part of its continued focus on nurturing emerging talent. Team owner Eddie Ives highlighted both Lee’s background and the importance of providing a supportive environment as he adapts to UK racing.
Ives stressed that the championship represents a significant step for any young driver, particularly one new to British circuits and racing culture, but expressed confidence in Lee’s ability to progress quickly.
“We’re delighted to welcome Kyuho to Elite Motorsport as he steps up into the GB3 Championship. He brings an impressive background from both international karting and Formula 4. GB3 is a significant step, particularly for a driver new to racing in the UK, we’re confident he’ll settle in quickly and use this season to build a strong foundation while pushing for competitive results in a highly challenging field.”
