Earlier this week Red Bull junior and F2 title challenger Arvid Lindblad was granted a Super Licence after a review by the FIA as the British driver could make his F1 debut in the near future, and it was something Helmut Marko discussed on Sky Germany at the Canadian GP.

At the age of just 17, Lindblad is seen as one of the most exciting prospects in the lower formulas. In his one and only season in Formula 3 last year, he won four times and finished 4th in the standings. A double win at Silverstone was the highlight.

In 2025, Lindblad is a serious contender for the title in Formula 2. He won the Feature race in Barcelona two weeks ago. The Campos driver sits 3rd in the standings, 8 points behind McLaren junior Alex Dunne.

Helmut Marko lauds Arvid Lindblad

Discussing Lindblad and his huge potential, Marko praised his mental strength alongside his impressive speed shown as he came through F4, into F3, and now F2.

“Lindblad is just 17 years old and has been very fast in all categories right from the start. He is mentally strong and incredibly determined.

“From his overall characteristics, Lindblad is also someone who can become one of the greats.”

Regular F1 reserve for Red Bull/Racing Bulls Ayumu Iwasa also doing Super Formula once again this year, Helmut Marko revealed Arvid Lindblad will be an option for them should Max Verstappen pick up a race ban. A practice run later this season seems likely at the very least.

With Isack Hadjar making a fantastic start to his rookie season at Racing Bulls, he is the one who would drive Max Verstappen’s Red Bull should he reach 12 penalty points on his licence and miss a weekend. Lindblad would join Lawson at RB.

“Generally, he can now drive a full race.”

“We only have one reserve driver, Ayumu Iwasa, but there are overlaps with the Japanese championship, so it was important for us to have a second reserve driver.”
