American talent Max Taylor will return to the GB3 Championship at Donington Park this weekend, driving for RACE LAB as the team makes its first foray into single-seaters. Consequently, the 17-year-old becomes both a familiar and fresh face in the paddock, having already raced at the circuit during his debut GB3 event last year. On that occasion, he secured three strong finishes in his maiden European appearance. Moreover, the experience gave him valuable insight into British circuits, which he now aims to build upon.
Strong form in the United States
Since his previous GB3 outing, Taylor has built an impressive record across the American junior ladder. In 2024, he won the USF Juniors Championship, thereby underlining his rapid development. Furthermore, he stepped up into USF Pro 2000, finishing sixth overall with a win at Road America and three additional podiums. In addition, he contested selected Indy NXT rounds, with a best result of fourth place at Laguna Seca, demonstrating his ability to adapt quickly to higher-powered machinery.
Therefore, Taylor arrives at Donington Park not only more experienced but also more confident, ready to measure himself against a competitive European field once again.
RACE LAB moves into single-seaters
RACE LAB also faces an important milestone this weekend, as the British outfit enters single-seater racing for the first time. Previously, the team earned strong results in sports car categories, including a two-year stint in the British GT Championship. Notably, they became Pro-Am champions in their debut season.
Additionally, RACE LAB has raced in European GT4 events and the McLaren Trophy series, building a reputation for professionalism and adaptability. Now, with the support of owner Lee Frost and international GT racer Euan Hankey, the squad will take on the challenge of GB3 using a car loaned by VRD Racing.
Euan Hankey expressed his enthusiasm: “As a team we’re very excited to be racing in single-seaters for the first time. My own racing career began in UK single-seaters, so it will be nice to be in that sort of paddock again and amongst some familiar faces I’m sure. While it’s our first time in GB3, we have plenty of collective experience to fall back on, and I’m confident we can give a good showing of ourselves as we evaluate future options for the team.”
Taylor’s goals for the weekend
For Taylor, the weekend offers both a challenge and an opportunity. He explained: “I’m really looking forward to having another go in GB3 this weekend. While I’ve driven at Donington Park on several occasions now, the car has obviously changed since I last raced there, so there’s a lot for us all to learn in testing! But I’m confident we can put it all together and exceed the results from a year ago. It’s great to be back at a European event and to also be helping a new team make their mark.”
Ultimately, both Taylor and RACE LAB view Donington Park as an exploratory step. Accordingly, success here could pave the way for a potential Monza entry at the season finale, signalling a broader ambition for both driver and team.
