Maximilian Paul has risen from aspiring racer to Lamborghini factory driver through persistence, determination, and perfect timing. His talent was evident early on, but it was his sustained effort and long-term relationship with Lamborghini that secured him a coveted seat with Lamborghini Squadra Corse in 2026. In an exclusive interview with Pit Debrief, Paul discussed his journey and the excitement of racing the new Lamborghini Temerario GT3.

Paul on building a relationship with Lamborghini

Paul’s connection with Lamborghini began years before his official promotion. Introduced to the brand early, he nurtured the relationship, gaining insight into the company’s inner workings. That long-term involvement proved crucial in earning his factory driver role.

“I would say that the fact is that I have been in contact with Lamborghini for several years. I have been driving Lamborghini for almost five or six years. The end of last year was my fifth year.”

Over the years, Paul immersed himself in Lamborghini’s operations and motorsport programmes, building trust and strong relationships with key figures.

“Of course, I am already working more closely with the entire factory. There have been many changes in management and structures. I have been involved in every step over the last five years.”

His commitment extended beyond racing results. Becoming a factory driver required aligning with Lamborghini’s strategic direction as much as demonstrating driving skill.

The road to a factory seat

In motorsport, talent alone does not guarantee a factory seat. Paul stresses that timing, company strategy, and opportunity mattered as much as his track performance.

“My goal was, of course, to always slip in as a factory driver. That doesn’t just depend on driving, of course, but also on opportunities from the manufacturer. What is the political orientation? In which direction do they want to push? What kind of drivers do they need? What kind of budgets do they have? What kind of programmes are there?”

His promotion came as a natural progression, the result of years proving his capabilities and earning trust.

“Now was a moment when the door opened for me because everything fell into place. Everything fit together. Accordingly, in the end, I wouldn’t say that this one conversation took place, but it just developed that way. The people at Lamborghini decided that it was going in the direction of a factory driver.”

Paul eager to race with the Lamborghini Temerario GT3

Now a factory driver, Paul is eager to race the Lamborghini Temerario GT3. The car represents a major step forward for Lamborghini, and Paul has already contributed to its development through regular testing sessions.

“Yes, we are currently testing the car regularly and, of course, trying to optimise the little things that are still, let’s say, leftover. But overall, the car is a huge step forward. I think it has a lot of potential for the future.”

A key feature of the Temerario GT3 is its improved customer-friendliness, which makes it an attractive option for teams and drivers while maintaining high-level performance.

“It is much more customer-friendly. I would almost rule out the issue of BOP, which has always been there, because the cards have simply been reshuffled.”

As a new-generation GT3 car, it is designed to compete with BMW, Ferrari, and other top manufacturers. Paul praised its technology and systems, which make it a strong competitor.

“The car is a new generation, just like a BMW or a Ferrari or other cars in this segment. By new generation, I mean a turbo engine, a different engine, new system controls and so on and so forth. Ultimately, I think it can be a very good GT3 car in the overall package for the next few years. And I’m obviously looking forward to driving my first races with it.”

Paul looking ahead to a bright future with Lamborghini

Paul’s promotion marks a career milestone, reflecting his dedication and the trust Lamborghini places in him. With the Temerario GT3, he aims to deliver success for himself and the brand. From junior driver to factory racer, Paul’s journey demonstrates talent, perseverance, and commitment. The future looks bright for him and Lamborghini Squadra Corse.
