MP Motorsport’s Maya Weug, bounced back to top the charts in the final day of In-Season Testing at Zandvoort. Not only topping the times for the day, Weug took the fastest time in testing. Early on in the morning session, Weug set what would soon be the fastest time of the session—a 1:36.789. She was the only driver to set laps sub-1:37.
After finishing the afternoon session on top, the Dutch driver did not finish any of the four session below P2. When asked how she felt about her performance across testing, she replied: “I think it’s been pretty positive,”
“The track was very green after the rainstorm on Monday, so yesterday was a bit tricky to adapt to that. After that, once the track got better, it went towards us and I think we found good pace.”
After nothing but troubles ruining her Championship lead during the Montreal GP weekend, the return to the top was needed. This boosts Weug’s hopes to bounce back at the Dutch GP.
“We’ve tried a lot of things ahead of the race weekend, which is always nice. I’m quite happy with how the team has done, so hopefully we can bounce back after the weekend we had in Montreal.”
MP Motorsport completed 331 laps across testing. Weug competed 103 of those laps. Despite not having the opportunity to run in wet weather, she remains confident that MP Motorsport is prepared for any situation.
Across the testing weekend, Weug prioritised finding the right balance within the car, and ensuring the car felt good. Throughout this, they tried a few adjustments, in an attempt to prepare for wet conditions during the actual Grand Prix weekend.
“Just getting the right balance first of all. Feeling good with the car and trying things here and there to see what we can prepare for in case of rain or different conditions in the race weekend. So, just testing stuff and it’s been good.”
The Dutch GP weekend will offer Maya Weug the added pressure, but also pride, of racing amongst her home crowd. The 2024 Dutch GP weekend was positive, with a double podium weekend, securing P3 and P2 in Race 1 and Race 2 respectively. Weug hopes to do this again, stating: “I’m super happy,”
“Of course, last year went quite well with the double podium. It’s a home race, so I will have the whole family here, which is always nice and doesn’t happen very often. I’m looking forward to driving at home again and it’s a lovely track!”
