Fortec Motorsports has confirmed that highly rated single-seater talent Liam McNeilly will step up to the 2025 GB3 Championship for the first time at Donington Park next month. The 19-year-old from Essex will join the multiple title-winning squad for the triple-header on 4–5 October, marking his first races in the UK since May 2024.
From Ginettas to single-seaters
McNeilly first came to prominence in the Ginetta Junior Championship, finishing as runner-up in both the main series and the Winter Series in 2021. In 2023, he made the switch to single-seaters via the GB4 Championship, where he made an instant impression by claiming a sensational wet-weather victory at Oulton Park on his debut weekend.
In 2024, McNeilly moved stateside to pursue the Road to Indy ladder. Once again he was victorious on debut, winning in the USF Juniors Championship, before going on to finish as overall runner-up and claim the Rookie of the Year award.
His progress continued into USF2000 this year, where he won the opening five races in dominant fashion. However, circumstances outside his control forced him to miss two rounds, and he subsequently withdrew from the campaign while still unbeaten. He later made a one-off appearance in USF Pro 2000 on the streets of Toronto, scoring two top-five finishes against strong opposition.
McNeilly excited for GB3 Debut
In the announcment, McNeilly expressed his enthusiasm at joining such an experienced and successful outfit, while also highlighting his optimism based on previous form at Donington Park.
“This is a great opportunity for me, and I can’t wait to make my GB3 debut, and to do it with a team like Fortec, who have been routinely winning championships for decades makes it even more of an honour. The car is not much more powerful than what I’ve raced before but has a lot more grip from its aero package and it feels really fast.”
“Donington is a track that I’ve won at in both Ginettas and GB4 so I’m feeling optimistic I can give a good account of myself and take some strong results. We’re still working out where to focus our efforts in 2026, but GB3 is an option so this experience will be a big help in terms of deciding what we do.”
McNeilly, who is supported by Wolf International, Felix Restaurants, and Acclaim Contracts, had his first taste of Fortec machinery at Brands Hatch in July, before returning for further mileage at Donington Park in September. These tests laid the foundation for his forthcoming debut at the Leicestershire circuit.
Fortec welcomes new talent
Fortec Team Principal Oliver Dutton believes McNeilly’s versatility and record of success across multiple series makes him an ideal addition for the Donington Park outing.
“We’re very pleased to welcome Liam to the team for his GB3 debut. He has shown impressive versatility and speed across different championships and cars, both in the UK and the US, and his record speaks for itself. Our brief tests together have been encouraging, and Donington will be a great opportunity for him to show what he can do in one of the most competitive single-seater series in Europe. We’re looking forward to working with him and helping him make the most of this opportunity.”
Looking ahead
McNeilly’s outing with Fortec at Donington Park represents an important milestone in his career as he evaluates his next steps for 2026. With GB3 under serious consideration as a potential full-season programme, his debut will serve as both a valuable benchmark and an opportunity to showcase his potential against some of Europe’s best young drivers.
