Ritomo Miyata is keen to use his previous 2 years of experience in F2 to fight at the front with Hitech TGR in 2026 for his upcoming campaign.
The Japanese driver is returning to the F2 grid for a third season, making the switch in 2026 to the Teams’ Championship runner-up, Hitech TGR. Speaking on the final day of the post-season test in Abu Dhabi, Miyata spoke of his excitement for the upcoming year.
Excitement ahead of new chapter with Hitech TGR
Miyata admitted he is relishing the challenge of joining a team that showed strong form throughout the previous campaign, believing it will allow him to take another step forward in his F2 career.
“It’s very exciting,” Miyata said. “It’s going to be an amazing season, I hope. Hitech TGR had a really strong 2025 season, and it’s good for me, because I can learn from them.”
“They are a strong team, so I can improve my driving, and they can also teach me how to have a good season in F2, so it’s going to be exciting.”
Consistency the focus in third F2 season
Reflecting on what he has learned from his first two years in F2, Miyata highlighted the importance of consistency, particularly in qualifying, as a crucial factor in achieving regular front-running results.
“First, in F2 it’s always important in this series to be consistent,” he explained. “In quali, the Sprint, and the Feature Race, especially quali, the important thing is to be inside the top-10.”
Pointing to Leonardo Fornaroli’s recent Championship-winning campaign, Miyata believes strong qualifying performances are key to unlocking race success.
“Last year, Leo consistently was always good in quali, it’s why he always got good race results and I think Hitech TGR has this potential,” he said. “I need to adapt to the Hitech car character and also next season, it will be my third, so I have a lot of experience, so I need to put it together.”
Teaming up with Herta
The 2026 season will mark the first time Miyata enters a campaign as the most experienced driver in his team, sharing the F2 Hitech TGR garage with American Colton Herta. Miyata sees similarities between Herta’s transition and his own arrival in Europe.
“I would say seeing my teammate Colton, it’s similar to my first year,” Miyata said. “I came from Super Formula, I never drove European circuits, but also Abu Dhabi and Bahrain, so basically all the tracks.
“He has a bit of experience in Europe, but even that, he came from IndyCar and I would say he is a big star. So I am excited to share the track with him, it is very good.”
Clear targets for the 2026 campaign
Looking ahead to the season, Miyata made no secret of his ambitions, with pole positions, race wins and consistency firmly at the top of his priority list.
“Clearly, I want to get Pole Positions in Quali, and I want to win the races,” he said. “Last season, in 2025, I finished P2, but only one time, and it was the only time I started from the front row.“
“So at first, I want to be on pole so I can win the race, and then consistency in quali, the Sprints and the Feature Races.”
