Rodin Motorsport’s Alex Ninovic delivered a sensational victory in Race 2 of the 2025 GB3 Championship at Donington Park, overcoming a ten-second penalty for a jump start to extend his championship lead and move within touching distance of securing the title.
The Australian’s win, his eighth of the season, came after a composed yet relentless drive that showcased both his speed and mental resilience under pressure. Despite an early setback, Ninovic demonstrated why he remains the standout driver of the season.
A calm head in a high-pressure race
When the lights went out, Ninovic reacted a fraction too early, moving off the line just before the start signal and seizing the lead from pole-sitter Reza Seewooruthun into Turn 1. He earned a 10-second time penalty for this mistake. However, rather than letting it derail his race, the Rodin driver shifted immediately into “attack mode.”
Lap after lap, Ninovic pushed the limits, building a gap that exceeded the penalty’s margin by mid-race. Even as the team radioed him about the time deficit, his focus never wavered.
After the race, Ninovic admitted the tension behind the wheel was immense: “Yeah, I know. Very nerve-wracking race, to be honest. Having to try and open that gap was quite rewarding at the end, but during the race, it was quite nerve-wracking.”
Despite the pressure, his efforts paid off. Once the time penalty was applied, Ninovic still crossed the line 1.131 seconds ahead of Seewooruthun, with Deagen Fairclough completing the podium.
“Yeah, I’m really happy with the result. Still to get the win is amazing, and the car felt amazing. Gave me the opportunity to really show what the car and myself are capable of, so I can’t thank Rodin Motorsport enough for that.”
As the race unfolded, the biggest threat to Ninovic’s lead wasn’t the field behind him—it was the possibility of a safety car wiping out his carefully built advantage.
“Yeah, I was looking at the laps, counting down, and I was like, please don’t have a Safety Car, because that could obviously ruin it quite a lot. So yeah, lucky to not have the Safety Car, and then on my end, to open the gap is quite impressive.”
Eyes on the 2025 GB3 Championship
With the victory, Ninovic now holds a commanding championship lead and needs only to finish three points ahead of Patrick Heuzenroeder in the final race of the weekend to seal the 2025 GB3 Championship title before the final round of the season.
As he prepares for the reverse-grid finale, Ninovic remains confident but pragmatic about his chances: “Yeah, the pace is obviously there, so yeah, I’m quite confident that we’ll be fast in the reverse, but obviously no risk is taken. We’re at a point in the championship where you can wrap it up, so yeah, just have fun out there, I reckon.”
A drive for the history books
The Donington Park performance epitomised Ninovic’s season—fast, focused, and unshakably composed. Turning a penalty into triumph, he reminded everyone why he leads the championship so convincingly.
If he completes the job in the afternoon’s race, Ninovic will have the honour of clinching the 2025 GB3 Championship with a full round to spare—a fitting reward for a campaign marked by precision and poise.
