IndyNXT racer Nolan Allaer will begin his 2026 season in the southern hemisphere, joining Giles Motorsport for the Castrol Toyota FR Oceania Trophy. The 23-year-old from Detroit is the latest international talent to head to New Zealand for the country’s premier single-seater championship, which is becoming an increasingly popular destination for aspiring drivers aiming for global motorsport success.
From karting to open-wheel glory
Allaer’s motorsport journey began at the age of eight in karting, quickly establishing himself as a young talent. He made his mark in open-wheel racing with impressive performances in the SCCA National Championships. In 2022, he won the Formula Continental title, a feat he repeated in 2023 while also claiming the Formula F Championship. His success in these competitive categories solidified his reputation as a rising star in single-seater racing.
In 2023, Allaer raced in the UK, becoming the fourth American ever to win a heat race at the prestigious Formula Ford Festival at Brands Hatch—one of the most revered events in British motorsport.
A new challenge in New Zealand
In 2024, Allaer stepped up to Indy NXT with HMD Motorsports, marking his debut in the American open-wheel feeder series. His 2025 season saw him finish 16th overall in the championship, gaining crucial experience in the highly competitive series. However, as 2026 looms, Allaer is shifting his focus to the Formula Regional Oceania Trophy, a series that offers a fresh and exciting challenge.
New Zealand’s circuits are known for being unforgiving, and the Formula Regional car presents its own unique challenges. Nevertheless, Allaer is eager to rise to the occasion. “I’m honoured to compete in this historic and successful championship,” he said. “My goal is to adapt quickly to the new car and fight at the front. In simple terms, I want to improve with every session.”
While the FR Oceania Trophy presents a new set of challenges—mastering the car and adapting to New Zealand’s iconic tracks—Allaer is confident in his ability to perform. As a soon-to-be graduate in mechanical engineering, his technical knowledge adds another layer of preparation as he takes on this new adventure.
