CUPRA KIRO has confirmed that 20 year-old Spanish driver Pepe Martí will complete the team’s lineup for the 2025/2026 FIA Formula E season. Martí, who currently competes in Formula 2 with Campos Racing, sits sixth in the Drivers’ Standings with three wins and two further podiums to his name and was part of the prestigious Red Bull Junior Team.
Returning for a second Formula 2 campaign this year, the 20 year-old has shown significant improvement from his rookie season, demonstrating greater consistency and maturity in his race craft. The announcement follows after weeks of speculation in the Formula E paddock over who could fill CUPRA KIRO’s second seat alongside Dan Ticktum, with Martí’s name often centre of those rumours.
As pre-season testing gets underway in Valencia from October 27th to 30th, Martí will take the track with CUPRA KIRO for the first time and hopefully gain valuable experience behind the wheel of Formula E machinery ahead of Season 12.
A second Formula 2 campaign with its ups and downs
Throughout his career, Martí has showcased his speed and talent across the junior ranks. However, his rookie Formula 2 campaign proved challenging, a campaign that was marked by bad luck and misfortunes. Luckily for the Spaniard, he has managed to turn things around in 2025 with a much stronger campaign. For instance, after charging from 11th on the grid to victory in the Bahrain Sprint Race to securing a hard-fought victory in Austria, the Spaniard has claimed three Sprint Race wins so far.
However, it wouldn’t be motorsport without its setbacks. The Spaniard endured a string of points-less outings at the start of the European leg of the season and suffered a double DNF in Monaco. Nevertheless, he returned to the points on home soil during the Barcelona Feature Race with a 6th place finish. While the 2025 Formula 2 title may now be slightly out of reach for Martí, the 20 year-old can be proud of his season as he prepares to embark on a new chapter with CUPRA KIRO in Formula E.
Shifting gears from Formula 2 to Formula E
In recent years, several drivers have made the shift from Formula 2 to Formula E as Martí joins DS Penske’s Taylor Barnard and Lola Yamaha ABT’s Zane Maloney, who have all now followed similar paths. Speaking about his move to CUPRA KIRO, Martí expressed his excitement for the new chapter ahead.
“I’m very excited to join CUPRA KIRO for the 2025/26 Formula E season. Obviously, it will be my first time racing in the category, and I’ll be a rookie, but nonetheless, I’m looking forward to it. The team is coming into Season 12 off the back of a win in Jakarta, and I feel very motivated to get this new chapter started. With Dan [Ticktum] as my team-mate, I’ll have a lot to learn and catch up on at the beginning of the season, but my goal is to get up to speed, improve quickly and score points and hopefully get a couple of good results.”
A future with CUPRA KIRO
Welcoming the 20 year-old to the team, CUPRA KIRO’s COO Russell O’Hagan praised Martí’s potential and expressed his excitement for their shared goals and journey which starts in Season 12.
“Welcoming Pepe to CUPRA KIRO marks an exciting new chapter for the team. Despite being just 20 years old, Pepe has shown exceptional levels of maturity, composure, and intelligence, which, when combined with his natural speed, makes him stand out as a top talent in modern motorsport. His decision to step away from Formula 2 and commit fully to our Formula E project is a real statement of intent, and not only validates our vision as a team, but shows belief in the future of the championship. His track record and drive align perfectly with our own goals, and together, we’re building something with long-term potential. I’m excited to see how our journey together unfolds over Season 12.”
