As the Formula 3 season comes to a close, Roman Bilinski expressed nothing but praise for Rodin Motorsport. The final round in Monza was a largely positive one for the British-Polish driver. After crashing in Free Practice, he bounced back to qualify P6.

This solid starting position allowed him to take his maiden F3 win in the Sprint Race. After finishing P2 on track, penalties for on track winner Tramnitz saw him inheriting the win. Bilinski stated: “Overall, I think a solid weekend to end F3 this year,”

He continued in to explain the hard work that went into his maiden win, and the working environment within Rodin. With many laughs and jokes, as well as strong relationships with his colleagues, his rookie season was one to remember.

“I think to get a win yesterday is pretty fantastic and also, I had to work on it from seventh on the grid, so it wasn’t an easy one, but I think I showed and proved a lot of things in the race, which is good.

“It has been great working with the team this year, they are all fantastic people, I have learned so much from them and it has just been an incredible time. I have had so many laughs and jokes with the mechanics, engineers, my teammates, so I just can’t thank them all enough.”

Monza is notorious for chaotic sessions, especially in the feeder series categories. With chaos all but promised, Bilinski was asked how he manages this. “You just steer around corners and hope,” he laughed.

He continued on a serious note to explain that knowing the other drivers, and their style helps greatly. Each move is planned where possible.

“It’s all calculated. You kind of have a good idea of drivers, how they defend and how they overtake beforehand, and you just manage it in the moment. You try to plan moves before and then you do your best.”

Post-season reflection

Now that the season has ended, Rodin Motorsport has secured P6 in the Team’s Championship. When considered that there are only ten teams to compete with, this isn’t where they would have liked to finish. Bilinski went as far as to say P6 isn’t close to what the team deserved.

While many things went wrong for Bilinski, many out of his control, the team performed well all things considered. He remains confident that the people who are watching him know he deserves to be higher, but will continue working in order to improve.

“I think overall where we are in the Championship is nowhere near where we deserved to be,” he said. “I have had a lot of things go wrong, out of my control, like in Spa, the race getting cancelled when I am starting on the second row.

“But it is what is. I also think the people who need to know where I should be, they know. I think as long as I keep learning, keep improving and doing my best, that’s important.”
